The Rust Stay Alert update for August 2024 is now live and it brings forth a brand-new force wipe in the game, introducing not only new elements but simultaneously incorporating a range of quality-of-life updates as well. With the Stay Alert update, players will find themselves with a new trapping deployable, a much-needed item buoyancy update, and other new changes.
This article will provide players with a detailed overview of Rust's latest patch for August 2024.
What is the Tin Can Alarm in Rust?
The Tin Can Alarm is a brand-new deployable in Rust. It is a primitive trap tool that can be crafted using empty tuna cans and some wood. The addition of the Tin Can Alarm in the Stay Alert update is to help solos and small groups take better control of the large monuments in Rust.
When triggered, the Tin Can Alarm rings loud in a 50-meter radius. This covers more than enough ground for most monuments, alerting all players of potential threats nearby. It's a fantastic early-game tool, and we recommend all players to use it.

Replicated bush sound changes in Rust
Till July 2024, bush sounds were only client-sided. With the latest update, bush sounds will now be audible to players around them. Going slower will eliminate sound for the most part, but walking or running through bushes will definitely alert all players in the vicinity of said bushes. This new addition will allow players to react to sudden movements and have better awareness of their surroundings.

Vendor price changes with Rust Stay Alert update
Since the July update, the dynamic vendor prices have not been operating as the developers had hoped. Players had found loopholes in the system and had abused it to benefit them in egregious ways in the game. To combat that, the latest August update has incorporated a new vendor pricing model, and has implemented the following changes in-game:
- Price changes now operate in real-time rather than based on in-game time. This should be more understandable and will work correctly on servers that manipulate in-game time.
- Price changes now take place every five real-time hours. Last month, the prices changed every 15 minutes in real-time by default, so this will make the prices change much more slowly.

Zipline improvements and buoyancy changes in Rust Stay Alert update
Zipline improvements
The Rust Stay Alert update brings players improved zipline mobility options. With the latest update, players will now have a much better option of opting for ziplines to traverse longer distances. The official patch notes state the following new changes in the game with respect to zipline improvements:
- Ziplines will now pick the furthest possible destination instead of the closest.
- We’ve increased the maximum length a zipline can run from 150m to 185m.
- Ziplines can now terminate at a higher point on the powerline structure and will pick these higher destinations when possible, reducing the amount of climbing required to continue the zipline.
- You can no longer get dismounted by trees when on a zipline. We already had several systems in place to prevent trees from spawning in zipline paths, but it still happened very rarely.
Buoyancy changes
The developers have also implemented new buoyancy changes with the Rust Stay Alert update for August 2024. Items that are dropped into water bodies will no longer sink instantaneously. They will now slowly fall and also get shifted around by currents in the water. Furthermore, they will also emit some bubbles as they move, allowing players to find these items easily as they sink to the ocean floor.
