The second act of Destiny 2 Episode Echoes brought in new quests and activities for the community. Alongside the time-gated quest steps for the Act, players will find new missions associated with the seasonal vendor, Failsafe. Being a crafty researcher, she wants Guardians to help with her work again by collecting samples from different corners of Nessus.
NES004 is the next specimen after the three similar quests that came weekly in Act 1. Bungie seems to be repeating the cycle in Act 2, as NES004 becomes the first research mission from Failsafe in the initial week of the new act.
This article lists everything related to the Act 2 Week 1 research mission, including the associated rewards, walkthrough, prerequisites, and more.
How to complete the Specimen ID NES004 mission in Destiny 2?
1) Prerequisite
To get the NES004 mission, you must first complete the week 1 questline of A Rising Chorus Act 2. For the first week, you can complete eight steps, with two Battlegrounds missions and a few collectibles thrown in. Once you interact with Failsafe at the HELM in the eighth step, the seasonal vendor will then unlock another additional blue mission, called Specimen ID: NES004.
2) Open chests
The first step of the Specimen ID NES004 mission requires you to open chests in seasonal activities. This can be done in any difficulty of either Breach Executable or Echoes Battlegrounds. Each chest will grant you 22% of progress, be it in standard or Expert difficulty.
The best possible activity for fast progression will be the Expert Breach Executable, which spawns two chests at the end of the activity.
3) Focus Echo Engram
The next step will require you to focus on five Echo Engrams at the HELM. This is a standard task and can be done through Failsafe's inventory in any way. You can choose to focus on specific weapons, or just an Engram via the "Seasonal Engram Focusing" section.
4) Extract data and defeat powerful enemies
Run Breach Executable activity to get small collectibles from enemies called "Extracted Data." This can be found in any enemy in the activity.
For the other objective, simply launch Battlegrounds activity and defeat yellow-bar enemies.
5) Talk to Failsafe and place specimen
For the last step, head back to HELM and talk to Failsafe to review the specimen. Next, follow the objective marker within the HELM to place the newly acquired specimen to complete the mission.
Placing a specimen grants one Echo Engram, Glimmer, and Season Pass EXP. Completing the mission will grant an armor reputation booster.
