The Specimen ID NES009 quest in Destiny 2 is the final specimen quest from Failsafe. With the end of Echoes' story in Act III, players get the conclusion of Nessus and Vex's story along with a few more entries to the Exotic mission. Amidst all the newly unveiled secrets, Failsafe continues collecting the specimens from Nessus, and she needs the Guardians to do most of the heavy lifting.

This article lists the prerequisites for the NES009 quest, how to get it and complete it for rewards. To summarize the drop source, NES009 can be found in the final secret chest room in the Encore mission, which is also the second new secret chest added in Encore: Coda.

You can identify this room with four Connection terminals, an Arc charge, and a barrier in the middle.

How to acquire and complete the Specimen ID NES009 mission in Destiny 2

1) How to get the NES009 quest

To get the NES009 quest, you must be inside the Encore Coda mission, and progress until you encounter Maya's laboratory. Here, interact with the Conflux, pass through the portal, and then take the newly opened portal on the right. This will lead you to a new room with a Vex barrier in the middle, alongside four Connection terminals.

2) Data seeds

For this step, you have to do a bit of exploration in different parts of Nessus. This step can be time-consuming, requiring you to look for small collectibles in random corners of the entire planet. Hence, be patient and take your time.

You're looking for small Vex collectibles that look like mini-Conflux, and Nessus chests. Both of them will drop Data Seeds. While mini-Conflux has guaranteed drop rates, Nessus chests also have a chance to drop them. To make your life easier, you can equip the Wombo Detector mod on your Ghost.

Completing this step grants two Enhancement Prisms.

3) Tree branches

Spawn on Exodus Black waypoint and follow the objective markers. Interact with each marker to get a branch. Rewards include two Echo gear pieces.

4) Speak to Hawthorne

Speak with Hawthorne at the Tower to complete this step. Rewards include two Legendary seasonal weapons.

5) Speak to Failsafe
