Tarisland Fire Mage build guide

Tarisland Fire Mage build
If you want to drop devastating AOE blasts, Tarisland's Fire Mage build is for you (Image via Tencent)

Although you start as Frost in Tarisland, you can swap to Fire Mage before too long. While both versions of the arcane spellcaster are good, the Fire build is stronger and more viable, in our estimation. The ability to rain down destruction in huge AOE blasts is more satisfying, but it does take more work. You really have to build your bomb counters to pull big numbers, but it’s still an incredibly fun way to play.

This new free-to-play MMO has really caught on since releasing to the public, with many feeling like it has a more classic World of Warcraft look. If you’re going to dive into this new MMO and want to deal serious damage, Fire Mage will be the way to go for this class.

Note: This build is based on the author's opinion.

How to play Fire Mage in Tarisland

A Fire Mage in Tarisland is about having big numbers through AOE damage and DoTs (damage over time). This is done through the Heat Bomb spell, which gains damage based on how much Heat you stack onto enemies before it explodes. Dealing damage builds Heat, and each time you crit an enemy, you build more Heat. This increases the impact of the explosion once the Heat Bomb's timer is up. You can see its UI icon right above your abilities.

After applying the bomb, you want to cycle between Fireball and Searing Sting (which also has a +20% crit rate, if you spec into it), to try and crit as many times as possible. When you’ve got about as much Heat as you think you can stack, let it explode for tons more damage.

This is harder to do at low levels with less crit, but as you level up, it’s going to be way more satisfying. Thankfully, you do have abilities as a Fire Mage in Tarisland that always crit, like Blazing Orb, so you’ll want those in the rotation too. That means your rotation is gonna look something like this:

  • Standard Rotation example: 3-4-2-1-2 (Heat Bomb, Blazing Orb, Searing Sting, Fireball, Searing Sting)
  • Heat Farming Rotation: 4-6-5-2-2-2-1

The second rotation for your Fire Mage in Tarisland is dependent on getting an instant-cast Tornado. This is done with the Heat Bomb talent, which gives you ultimately a 50% chance to instantly cast the powerful AOE after using Heat Bomb, and will pause the bomb timer for one second.

Tarisland is still relatively new, so builds are likely to change quite a bit over time, and Fire Mage is no exception. When looking at Talents, you’re aiming for more critical hit rate and lower cooldowns on spells you use frequently.

That gives you more time to start obliterating targets with your Heat Bomb. Much like the Bard, there are always talents that shine brighter than others. This is the build we’re most acquainted with, but that might change in the future:

Talent picks

  • Searing Sting+: 3 points
  • Charged Spur: 2 points
  • Flame Master: 3 points
  • Blazing Orb: 3 points
  • Charged Fireball: 2 points
  • Heat Bomb: 3 points
  • Rapid Explosion: 3 points
  • Recharge Jewel: 2 points
  • Precise Blast: 3 points
  • Flame Rush: 2 points
  • Flame Boost+: 1 point
  • Burn Out: 3 points
  • Fireball+: 3 points

All of Tarisland’s Fire Mage Ultimates are useful, so it’s important to pick the ones that are right for you. I pick Pyro Shield (Helps with reducing damage) and Spell Interference (Interrupts/disrupts a spell being cast). You should also consider focusing on particular stats: Crit, Omni/Cooldown, Intellect, Hit.

Omni is tied with Cooldown because they’re both intensely useful. Omni increases damage on your skills, so it’s very useful. The other stats more or less speak for themselves. There’s always room for more critical hits, and lowering spell cooldowns is very useful.
