TennoCon 2024 roundup: Warframe 1999, interim updates, Soulframe news, and more

TennoCon 2024 just revealed several exciting updates for all Warframe players. The 2024 edition of the popular Warframe expo was a little different, as the fanfare went on for two days rather than being the one-day affair we have come to expect. For those who attended in person, there was a TennoVIP event on July 19, 2024, with a 90s-themed afterparty that involved arcades and old music.

If you're wondering why the 90s theme, it's because Warframe's upcoming big update this winter is taking us back to its sci-fi version of the millennium celebrations on Earth. A bulk of the scoop fans got from TennoCon 2024 was about Warframe 1999, and a few updates leading up to it. Read along to find out everything we learned.

Everything revealed about Warframe and Soulframe on TennoCon 2024: A Summary

Here's everything important revealed during TennoCon 2024, the annual Digital Extremes expo:

Warframe 1999 is coming this winter

While we did not get a concrete release date, the release window for Warframe 1999 is now confirmed to be Winter 2024. Plus, we got a first look into the new syndicate and gameplay features for this update:

• Infested Liches are finally coming to Warframe, completing the trifecta. In a shocking turn, they will be intertwined with 90s boy-band music, the mark of Tech-rot.
• The Syndicate for the update will be called the Hex, and their characters will be a part of a Romance system, which is a first for Warframe.
• Gemini Skins, which let you switch between regular Warframe and its corresponding proto-frame on the fly. For example, Excalibur can morph into Arthur and vice versa.
• A new open world based on an alt-history 1990 East-European city.
• The Atomicycle is the newest mount coming to the game with this update.
• Two new enemy factions: Tech-rot and the Scaldra

New Warframe Cyte-09

Cyte-09 will be the 59th unique Warframe, coming with the 1999 update. Cyte-09 will adopt the relatively straightforward marksman archetype instead of the more out-there themes perceived in the last few frames.

Warframe Lotus Eaters update and Sevagoth Prime

To properly set up the scene for Warframe 1999, a new update called Lotus Eaters is coming out in August 2024. This will be a brief cinematic scenario the same way New War was set up by Chimera: Prologue. Other than this, Lotus Eaters will introduce the next Prime Warframe, Sevagoth.

Another quality-of-life Warframe update coming this fall (with Caliban rework)

Caliban, a proverbial bottom-of-the-barrel Warframe, is finally getting the rework he deserves. This rework will be bundled inside a big quality-of-life update, which is coming before Warframe 1999, sometime this fall.

Not much has been revealed about this update yet, but we will get more news on it on the Warframe panel at this Year's Tokyo Games Show.

Ember and Rhino Heirloom Skins

The Ember Heirloom skin has already gone live with the start of TennoCon 2024. On top of this, the live panel revealed the candidate for the fourth Heirloom skin: Rhino.

The Rhino Heirloom Collection will be available to purchase sometime in Q1 2025 for both real money and Platinum. Other upcoming cosmetics include a new deluxe Skin for Caliban.

THE LINE will be collaborating with Digital Extremes for a Warframe 1999 Anime Short later this year, to further set the tone and provide more sneak peeks into the lore of the big update coming this winter.

First Soulframe Devstream

This year's TennoCon was also the platform for the first-ever Soulframe Devstream. An upcoming Digital Extremes MMORPG in development, Soulframe is a sister project from the original creative team behind Warframe.

In this debutant Soulframe Devstream, some key new features were revealed:

• Character Creation system
• Death and Resurrection
• New boss, Nimrod
• New Ancestor/Omen Beast: Verminia the Rat Witch
• Elixirs and Potions (Dynamic weather-altering Elixir for a taste of what's to come)
