As a former cook, The First Descendant’s Blair brings the heat in ways other Descendants just can’t. He’s an interesting character with a fiery flair, and if you want to dominate the battlefield with him, we’re here to help. He’s all about creating deadly Flame Zones and doling out incredibly powerful critical hits. If that’s your cup of tea, then you’d want to give him a spin.
While he’s not the most powerful character in our The First Descendant tier list, he has the potential to deal incredibly high damage. Here’s how you can build your own devastating pyromancer Blair.

The First Descendant Blair skill breakdown
Blair’s skillset is a really fun one, when it comes to The First Descendant’s characters. While yes, he typically has to be fairly close to be effective, he does have tons of AOE damage to blast into the world. His passive, Pitmaster, increases his critical hit chance based on the number of Flame Zones he has active, which come from a pair of his abilities. Additionally, simply attacking enemies who are "Burned" increases his Critical Hit Damage.
Blaze Up creates Burn Zones, and deals damage, and his ultimate attack, Deadly Cuisine creates several of them after the smaller fireballs explode. If you’re short on mana, you can retrieve them, using Extinguish. At least two of his abilities apply Burn as well, so it’s not hard to deal plenty of damage when playing as Blair.
All Blair Skill Modules in The First Descendant
At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Blair’s Skill Modules in The First Descendant. However, I do appreciate the power of Incendiary Bomb since it makes a very clear Flame Zone from a thrown projectile. Truly Deadly Cuisine is probably more for people who just want to hit something really hard once—perhaps a large boss, instead of aiming for huge groups of enemies. You’ll see all of his unique Skill Modules below, along with their socket type:
- Backdraft (Malachite): Extinguish SKill Conversion. Flame Zone absorption significantly increases Weak Point ATK instead of Skill ATK.
- Classic Chef (Xantic): Pitmaster Skill Conversion. Modifies the increases to Firearm and Skill Critical Hit Rate to 5 based on the Flame Zone count. Using Deadly Cuisine increases the number of Flame Zones created to 4.
- Incendiary Bomb (Almandine): Blaze Up Skill Conversion. Throws a projectile forward that spawns a Flame Zone where it lands.
- Truly Deadly Cuisine (Almandine): Deadly Cuisine Skill Conversion. Significantly increases the damage of Giant Fireballs. When a Giant Fireball explodes, Small Fireballs and Flame Zones do not spawn.
The First Descendant Blair build: What are the best Modules to use?
Many of Blair’s max level Modules are no-brainers in The First Descendant. Fire Specialist, Skill Expansion, and Technique Manual in particular. These all enhance what he does best - hurt things with fire.
Even if Technique Manual takes some of your Max HP, it’s worth it to deal the extra damage. Skill Range is another obvious choice since it increases your overall range. I'm not incredibly high on Blair's unique Modules, but Backdraft or Incendiary Bomb can be considered instead of Increased DEF.
- Skill Range Mastery: Improves the range of your Skills.
- Increased Shield: Increases your Max Shield.
- Fire Specialist: Increases Skill Power of Fire skills.
- Skill Expansion: Increases Effect Range of skills.
- Focus on Fire: Improves Skill power of Fire Skills, and reduces Skill Cooldowns slightly.
- Dual Claw: Changes Sub Attack to a Dual Claw attack. Increases Max Module Capacity.
- Willpower Efflux: Increases your DEF and slightly improves HP Heal.
- Increased DEF: Increases Defense.
- Increased HP: Increase Max Health.
- Technique Manual: Landing a skill deals a portion of Max HP as extra damage. 8s cooldown per target.
- Insert whichever defensive Module you need for the content you’re doing.
Ideal Reactors
When considering a Reactor, whether for Blair or any other character, you want to focus on one that has certain stats. For Blair, the ideal stats to look out for are anything that increases Fire (Burning Reactor) or Dimension (Phase Reactor) damage, as well as Skill Power and Sub Attack Power. You also want Skill Critical Hit Damage as another potential stat.
External components to use on Blair
Since unlocking External Components is fairly random, finding the ones you want for Blair might be difficult. If you’re lucky enough to, you want External Components with Max Shield, Max HP, HP Recovery, and DEF stats.
