The First Descendant is a looter-shooter that may not let the players make a custom character, but it does let them heavily customize all the classes. Each Character Class that they can choose in the game can be adapted in terms of players' personal playstyle by tweaking abilities and using modules. Character stats in The First Desencdant are mainly divided into two categories, attack and defense.
The defense category contains the HP, DEF, and Shield stats. Many fans may be wondering if the defense stats are even worth upgrading in a shooter gamer like The First Descendant. The simple answer to this question is, Yes, defensive stats are important in The First Descendant and players should increase them. But committing to them is only necessary if they are playing a tank.
What are the defensive stats in The First Descendant?
The defensive stats are certain aspects that help the Descendant survive longer on the battlefield. These stats include:
DEF
- Shows how strong your defense is. Higher DEF lowers the enemy's attack power more. The most DEF can lower attacks is by 80%.
Max Shield
- The most Shield you can have. The shield doesn't come back when you're hit.
HP Heal Modifier
- Affects how fast you heal HP. A bigger number means you heal faster.
HP Recovery Modifier
- Changes how much HP you get back over time.
Max HP
- The most HP you can have. If your HP drops to 0, your Descendant dies.
MP Recovery Modifier
- Changes how fast you get MP back.
Shield Recovery Modifier
- Changes how fast your Shield comes back.
You can boost and customize your Descendant’s defensive stats through the external components menu. You can find it by going down this path: Inventory > Equip Accessory > Equip External Components.

Should you increase defensive stats in The First Descendant?
As we said initially, defense stats are just as important as attack stats. But the balance of these stats depends on the character you are playing. Defensive measures are a safety net to get out of sticky situations and go back to your skill rotation. So if you are playing a DPS focus character, then just equip enough modules to keep you alive and focus the rest on offense.
But if you are playing a tank character, then the defense stats are your lifeblood. You should focus on increasing them and equipping modules that benefit from high defense. Below we have shared some character modules that you should keep an eye out for if you are playing tank characters like Ajax and Kyle:
1) Body Enhancement
- Descendant: Ajax
- Type: Almandine
- Effect: Increase DEF and Energy Shield proportionally to Max HP
2) Void Charge
- Descendant:: Ajax
- Type: Almandine
- Effect: Void Walk and Expulsion damage increase proportionally to DEF
3) Diamagnetic Bulwark
- Creator: Kyle
- Type: Malachite
- Effect: Knocks back enemies on contact
That’s all for the defense stats in The First Descendent. We hope you now have an idea about how to go about building your character.
