The Devourer is a boss in The First Descendent. Similar to the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant, this boss too is a giant HP sponge. To defeat it, all you need to do is melt its HP bar to zero, but it has some incredibly annoying mechanics that may ruin your run.
Nonetheless, this guide provides steps you can follow to make short work of the Devourer Boss in The First Descendant.
How to defeat the Devourer in The First Descendant
Preparations before the fight
- Mod your Descendant for toxin resistance to mitigate poison damage.
- Equip your weapons with electric damage mods, including the electric enhancement perk.
- Consider using characters like Kyle, Bunny, or multiple Bunnies for their electric damage abilities.
- If possible, include Yujin in your team for healing support.
This boss is weak to Electric, so if you want to make quick work of him, exploit this weakness as hard as you can. Otherwise, there are no special quirks; it’s just a full DPS check, so get equipped with proper loadout and shoot at it till it drops.
Battle Strategy for Devourer:
- Keep your distance from the boss to avoid close-range attacks.
- Constantly move and dodge to avoid long-range abilities and poison attacks.
- Avoid stepping in poison puddles on the ground.
- Scan to view the boss's weak spots.
- Focus your attacks on the visible weak spots to deal maximum damage.
- The boss will be temporarily staggered when a teammate grapples and breaks a yellow part.
- During stun phases, target the exposed core for increased damage.
The Devourer is the most dangerous when faced up close. So keep your distance, continue shooting at its weak points, and eventually grapple onto its yellow parts to stagger him and focus all your attacks on it.
Symbiont Phase:
- When the symbiont phase begins, split into teams of two.
- Each team should focus on destroying one symbiont as quickly as possible.
- While attacking symbionts, watch for and dodge the green circles (toxic meteors) that appear on the ground.
- Keep moving and rolling to avoid the toxic meteor damage.
- Prioritize destroying all symbionts (3-4 total) before they can fully heal the boss.
Once the boss is down, it initiates its mechanic, spawning a few green containers that constantly heal it. You will need to break them as soon as possible or they will completely heal the boss.
Post-symbiont Phase:
- If the boss regains full health, don't panic - this is normal. Focus on preventing shield regeneration.
- Focus on the main boss and continue the DPS phase.
- Keep targeting weak spots as they become available.
- When the boss is knocked down, prioritize damage in this order: core, eyes, back, and gun.
Even if the boss gains all of its health back, it’s not the end of the world. Just continue DPS-ing till it drops. Focus on the weak spots, avoid the poison pools, and eventually, you will kill it.
General Tips:
- Maintain constant movement throughout the fight.
- Use Bunny's fourth ability during core exposure for massive burst damage.
- Coordinate with your team to efficiently take down symbionts and share healing resources.
- Stay persistent - once you survive the symbiont phase without the boss regaining shields, you're likely to win the fight.
That’s all for the Devourer boss in The First Descendant. We hope this guide helps you get through this colossus.
