As The First Descendant's first post-release character, many are wondering what an optimized Luna build should entail. Broadly speaking, Luna is a support class through and through. You could try using the Noise Surge skill module to pump some DPS into her, but in our testing, this is not good enough to warrant a DPS-centric build.
In this Luna build guide, we'll explain the intended way to play this character in The First Descendant. We will go over Luna's abilities, how to get the most out of them through a module setup, as well as other loadout elements to think about.
How to play Luna in The First Descendant
Here's a detailed breakdown of what each of Luna's abilities do in The First Descendant:
Passive: Inspiration Gauge
A big part of Luna's kit is 'Enhanced Abilities' which depend on the state of the 'Inspiration Gauge', her custom resource meter. The Inspiration Gauge fills up when you hit your signature weapon shots or abilities on-Note, and decreases when you fail to do so. A full Inspiration Gauge, in turn, lets you hit an 'Enhanced Ability' version of your Skills, which consumes it fully in the process.
Best Skill rotation for Luna
The Skill rotation for Luna depends on your situation and what you want to achieve in terms of group support. However, in general, it should go something like First Ability > Fourth Ability on-Note till you fill-up the Inspiration Gauge > Enhanced 2/3/4. Here's a more detailed explanation:
- You will have to cast your Stage Presence (Q, first ability) to pull out the synth gun to use any of her other abilities, so this is a non-negotiable part of the rotation.
- Use your Cheerful Act (Z, fourth ability) to fill up your custom resource bar fast. Enhanced abilities are much more powerful, and you want to use them as much as possible.
- Once the bar is full, use the enhanced ability that you'd like. In the vast majority of cases, Enhanced Cheerful Sound is the strongest support skill from Luna. Coordinate with your team to execute it right after an ally has used their high-cooldown Ult.
- Note that the custom bar depletes automatically after a while if you're out of combat, so no point trying to build it up before combat starts.
If you don't have this character yet, here's how to get Luna in The First Descendant.
Best Module setup for Luna in The First Descendant
The intended way to build Luna is propping up her support stats. For this reason, the first stat to pad out is Skill Range. Afterwards, you can spec into defensive stats and higher MP. Here's what a full support build would look like:
- Nimble Footsteps (red mod)
- Sub-attack/Grappling hook mod
- Maximize Range
- Skill Expansion
- Increased HP
- Arche Concretion
- Agony/MP Accelerant
- Enlightenment
DPS Build with Noise Surge
If you manage to get Luna's Noise Surge module, she can be a nuke-spaming Descendant. The following is the module priority for a DPS build:
- Noise Surge (red mod)
- Sub-attack/Grappling Hook mod
- Increase HP
- Skill Expansion
- Maximize Skill
- Maximize Power
- crit mods
All the critical mods (Emergency Measures, Front Lines, and so on) have a triangle (Almandine) socket type, meaning you need to make a dedicated DPS mod loadout with additional loadout-specific socket assignment. In other words, Luna would take many more Crystallization Catalysts than a regular character to spec into diverse playstyles.
Best Reactor for Luna in The First Descendant
The best Reactor for a Luna build in The First Descendant will be a Materialized Singularity Reactor of Rare or Legendary rarity. This will be the best value for her second, third, and fourth skills. Since you'll have your Synth gun out at all times, we also recommend going for a purple Reactor over a golden one.
The ideal bonus stat rolls will vary depending on what kind of Luna build you want:
- DPS build: Skill Crit Hit Rate, Skill Crit Hit Damage, Non-Attribute Damage bonus
- Support build: Skill Range, Skill Cooldown reduction, Skill Duration
Best Weapon for Luna in The First Descendant
Luna generally has the Synth gun out at all times, which makes your actual weapon choice less important. However, if you want to lean into the 'support' gimmick, Naziestra's Devotion is the best 'off-hand' gun for Luna due to its DEF-shredding unique trait.
Best External Components for Luna in The First Descendant
The External Components will depend on the totality of your build, and what stat it lacks. Generally, going for a combination of DEF and max MP is the best. Specifically, Luna benefits from the Bravery set, which drops from the Obstructor boss in The First Descendant.
