The First Descendant has Ultimate and Normal characters, and there are a few differences between them. Ultimate Descedants come with a premium appeal, adorned with exclusive cosmetics you cannot get elsewhere in the game. However, they're not just a type of skin but are separate characters on their own.
The game doesn't clarify how Ultimate characters differ from Normal Descendants at the outset. This article will discuss whether Ultimate characters are worth getting and what they do differently.
What's the difference between Ultimate and Normal characters in The First Descendant?
An Ultimate is a variant of a normal character in The First Descendant, offering the same set of skills. There are two differences: Ultimate characters have enhanced stats and boast a separate cosmetic that cannot be equipped in the normal one.
Compared to normal Descendants, Ultimates have more DEF, HP pool, Shield, Maximum MP, and/or Shield Recovery. However, the difference is not so big that it will turn a squishy Descendant like Bunny into a face-tanking menace. When the scaling through Modules and Reactors is accounted for, the difference is imperceptible during actual gameplay. In our Ultimate Bunny acquisition guide, you can find a stat spread difference between Ultimate and Normal Bunny.
The Ultimate vs Normal character difference will be immediately understood by Warframe players as Primes and non-Primes.

Is farming Ultimate characters worth it in The First Descendant?
If Ultimate characters only offer marginal stat enhancements, are they worth the high price? An Ultimate costs 3000 Caliber in this game, which is about the same as the price of a AAA title in real money.

While it's arguably not worth it due to the exorbitant price of the premium currency, you can and should eventually farm it in-game. Every Ultimate character in the game can be farmed, but it's a slow and long grind.
For the high price of admission (the tedious grind), you get the Ultimate as a token of prestige and commitment to a certain character. But in more functional terms, Ultimate characters give you exclusive Mastery XP separate from the Normal variants, so you may need to level this up to get to Mastery Rank 30 in The First Descendant.
