Customizing Weapons in The Forever Winter is one of the main gameplay aspects that you need to master in order to survive the horrors of the apocalyptic world stuck in an endless war. Your role as a survivor is not to fight the nightmarish war machines and take a stand to end the war, but to do everything you can to scavenge loot and survive.
In each run, you will need to sneak, blend, and adapt to find loot and safely bring it back. However, in the rare instances where you will have to fight to survive, you need a trusty weapon that is fully customized to your playstyle. In this article, we have shared everything you need to know about customizing your weapons in The Forever Winter.
How to customize weapons in The Forever Winter
Customizing weapons in The Forever Winter significantly improves your chances of coming back alive from your runs. To start customizing, open the game menu by pressing the ESC button on your keyboard. Here, navigate to the “Combat Loadout” section and select the gun in your inventory that you want to customize. Once selected, the bottom section of your HUD will show an option labeled “Customize”. Click on it to enter the weapon customization screen.

In the customization menu, you can modify several parts of your weapon, including the magazine, upper receiver, barrel, handguard, pistol grip, stock, gas tube, and muzzle device. Each part offers a list of available attachments. After selecting a new part, you will see the changes reflected in the weapon model on the right side of the screen.
Once you’re satisfied with the modifications, you can save the configuration by selecting “Save As Preset” from the bottom of the HUD. This allows you to store a customized version of the weapon in your inventory, which you can later equip by dragging it into your loadout. Experiment with various attachment combinations to make the perfect weapon for yourself.
Where to find weapon attachments in The Forever Winter
One of the ways to acquire weapon attachments in this game is from vendors. You can attract new vendors to your hub area by increasing your available water resource, which unlocks weapon traders who sell attachments.

However, the best way to get attachments for your weapons is through exploration and raiding. If you're looking for rarer and more unique attachments, the Scorched Enclave is an excellent place to search. The bunkers in this area contain crates that often hold weapon attachments, usually located in the topmost sections. With a bit of luck, you can find multiple attachments in a single raid.
It's important to note that looting attachments during a raid comes with the risk of losing them if you fail to extract. Only the attachments collected and successfully extracted will remain in your inventory, so plan your raids carefully to ensure you get the loot back to your hub safely.
