The World of Warcraft Tarot Deck is truly a remarkable item — something I never really thought I’d see, but with enough fascinating characters that could fit on the cards of a fortune-telling device like this. Though I’m not a professional tarot reader, in my youth I did dabble, finding the whole thing pretty intriguing. After going over this set of cards over and over, as not only someone who is familiar with Tarot, and a WoW fan, I love them.
The World of Warcraft Tarot Deck is really the answer to “What do you get the WoW fan who has everything?”. Though I do think there are one or two things I would change about the deck itself if I could, it’s a lovely look back into a world I dearly love.

The World of Warcraft Tarot Deck features incredible new artwork of many famous characters
Perhaps the most obvious thing about the World of Warcraft Tarot Deck is that it needed to feature some truly iconic characters in places that make sense. For those that do not know much about Tarot, this deck features 78 cards, divided into two groups: Major Arcana and Minor Arcana.
Even if you aren’t familiar with Tarot, if you’re a fan of the Persona/Shin Megami Tensei franchise, you’ll recognize the cards for sure. Even RPGs like Ogre Battle have borrowed the Tarot, using it to adjust character stats, determine a protagonist, and affect gameplay.
The WoW Tarot Deck features unique art of some truly famous characters, that are both relevant right now, and some that have been game changers in the past. For the most part, every single one of these fits. In fact, I want to highlight some of my favorites:
- The Magician: Khadgar
- The Fool: Wrathion
- The Hierophant: Thrall
- The Tower: Sargeras’ gigantic sword in the desert
The Tower might be my favorite card representation in the deck. After all, the Tower is supposed to represent destruction and ruin. Something mysterious and utterly powerful, that ruins all around it. What better than that gigantic sword jutting into the planet itself? However, there is one card that just doesn’t sit well with me.
The trouble with the Death Card - The Jailer
While I think The Jailor could fit for the Death Card, and even just looking at it as a bit of an “on the nose” choice, it could make sense. However, I do have to say I disagree with it and feel like a better choice was available the whole time.
I think Bwonsamdi, Loa of Death would fit more. I feel like he represents what the Death card is about more. The Jailer is an evil character, an embodiment of evil and wickedness. He wants to consume all souls and destroy the afterlife, which I don’t think represents the way the Death card works.
Sure, it can mean death, but as far as I’ve always translated it, the Death card is about change more than anything else. While it does also mean not denying the inevitable, it also means change a great deal, and what figure fits that best than Bwonsamdi, Loa of Death? Plus, it would’ve meant art for an amazing character and not a bland, boring villain like The Jailer.
The production of the World of Warcraft Tarot Deck is sublime
The art for the World of Warcraft Tarot Deck is amazing — as you’ve already seen. This work is incredible, but it’s more than that. The box is top quality; it comes with a handy guide, and also the cards themselves look and feel amazing.
They look gorgeous and glossy, with quality card stock. They look and feel like the real deal. Whether you’re familiar with Tarot, that’s okay. The deck guide easily explains how to use a deck, and each card has explanations for what they might mean when revealed. If you’re a Warcraft fan at all, these are a must-have.
Is the World of Warcraft Tarot Deck worth it?
It 100% is. For the price point ($27.99), you get a useful 128-page book, all 78 cards in a gorgeous box, and tons of original World of Warcraft artwork. As someone who has been playing World of Warcraft since the beginning, and who finds Tarot fascinating, I think this is a pretty incredible set. I agree with a vast majority of the card picks - not all of them, but far, far more than I don’t.
Even if you have zero interest in Tarot, and are a Warcraft fan, I still think this is a perfect gift for that WoW lover in your life. Just as something to take out and admire the amazing art on it. From the backs of the cards to the actual art on them, it’s all a beautiful package that must not be missed out on.
