Revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase, Season 13 of Sea of Thieves is scheduled to go live on July 25, 2024. With the new season, Flameheart is set to make waves with its return to the game. We will receive a new World Event that will introduce a new villain.
Besides a twist in how you play this open-world survival adventure, there is a lot more that Season 13 has in store for us. In this article, we will walk you through some of the things you should focus on in the newly released trailer.
5 things to note from Sea of Thieves Season 13 release date trailer
Listed below are some of the main highlights to take home from the Season 13 trailer of Sea of Thieves:
1) Play as the villain
The brand-new season comes with a twist that lets you take control of the "main weapon" and play as the bad guy. It is not clear how this new mechanic will work, but we feel that you must contest other players to gain possession of the strongest ship in the game.
People were anticipating a longer cinematic trailer but we only got a one-minute clip, which leaves us with very little to play with. But all we can say is Season 13 will be very interesting.
2) Captain Flameheart and The Burning Blade
Season 13 will bring back Captain Flameheart and The Burning Blade. As mentioned above, you can play as the villain and this is the ship you will sail on the open waters.
The Burning Blade is the game's strongest vessel with powers unlike any other. Not only can you fire cannons, but you can also spit flames to burn your enemies. That will make taking down enemy ships much easier.
You can pledge yourself to Captain Flameheart. He will be an NPC you can interact with and will be in Reaper's Hideout.
3) A new variety of World Event missions
As Captain Flameheart becomes accessible for all players, we might see a new class of World Event missions that will make you think from a villain's perspective. The Season 13 update is scheduled for July 2024, which makes us wonder if Rare will add more elements to Sea of Thieves.
Season 14 will be a sandbox update, but that is not as anticipated as the one we witnessed in the latest Xbox Showcase. The cinematic trailer shows Flameheart breaking through his coffin. That is abrupt and we can only hope that there is more to the lore to make sense.
So, formulating substantial lore will give Rare ways to give us interesting missions to play around with while exploring the new season of Sea of Thieves.

4) Pirate Lord and his saga
Even though the trailer mostly showcased Captain Flameheart and we didn't get much of the lore, we might get something related to the Pirate Lord in Sea of Thieves. Even if the Pirate Lord does not find a place in Season 13, we can expect a prominent role in the upcoming season, probably even a Tall Tale based on this character.
5) Old players will find themselves ending their hiatus
As there is a new mechanic in the upcoming season of Sea of Thieves, we might see many old players return to the game. So, Season 13 might see a spike in the player base with Seasons 14 and 15 seeing dips. Then in Season 16, which will be a story-driven update, we might see a rise in the player base once again.
