Fishing can be incredibly useful to Throne and Liberty players, though it takes a little time to unlock. While entirely optional, if you plan on doing any Cooking in the game, farming some delicious fish is going to be worth it. The fish you reel in can be used in a wide assortment of meals, which can offer valuable buffs as you progress through Amazon Games’ latest MMO.
The Global Launch version of Throne and Liberty is coming soon, and with it, an updated Fishing system. If you’re a fan of trying to reel in fish or treasure, this is an optional lifestyle system you will want to invest time into.
How to get started with Fishing in Throne and Liberty
You can’t go Fishing in Throne and Liberty without a rod and some bait, and getting these can be hard. You can buy a rod and bait through the Contract Coin Merchant, but this costs a hefty amount of Contract Coins considering you're this early on.
It's recommended that you instead acquire it via Appendix: The Romance of Fishing by first completing Adventure Chapter 3, Appendix: Adventures of the Expedition, and speaking to Adventurer Pro Percy in Kastleton. Go to the Amitoi House, send him off on a journey, and then travel back to Kastleton to speak to him again. This quest gives you the starter fishing gear: A free Bamboo Fishing Rod (the same one you can get from the Contract Coin Merchant).
Now, you just need bait. The Contract Coin Merchant sells 50 Fishing Bait (Paste Bait) for 30 Contract Coins. You can also buy it from the in-game shop for 15 Ornate Coins, but this is a real-money currency. Additionally, you can find several other types of bait during your playthrough:
- Fish Filet Bait
- Worm Bait
- Shrimp Bait
Fish Filet Bait has been found in rare Big Catch Sacks, but there could be other locations where it drops in the game.
You can find Worm Bait as a by-product of gathering Mystood from cut-down trees around the world.
Shrimp Bait is dropped by a wide assortment of level 30-40 monsters. Here are the ones we know can drop it:
- Hermit Lobster
- Hermit Crab
- Chestacean
- Iron Chestacean
- Large Stone Crab
- Sea Crab
Paste Bait is the easiest to acquire since you can purchase it daily for Contract Coins. The others take far more work to acquire, and thus, should be used sparingly.
How Fishing works in Throne and Liberty
Fishing is pretty easy in Throne and Liberty. Head to a large body of water such as a lake or ocean, and enter your menu. Make sure to equip the Fishing Rod and bait. Then, press the button on your hotbar to cast your line and press F to cast it into the water. If the water’s too shallow, you’ll see a red spot, which means you need to throw the line a bit deeper.
Wait for a fish to bite, and follow the on-screen prompt to hook that fish. Two bars will show up on your screen, an orange bar (fish stamina) and a green bar (your stamina). The fish is going to swim left and right to try and get away, so pull in the opposite direction by pressing A or D. Don’t completely drain your stamina, though, or the fish will get away.
It takes a little practice, but after a few casts, you’ll be a pro. You should also fish in lots of different areas to catch a wide assortment of fish. However, the rarer ones may be much more difficult to reel in.

What kind of rewards await in Throne and Liberty’s Fishing activity?
The primary reward for Fishing in Throne and Liberty is, of course, fish! You’ll spend most of your time collecting an assortment of sea creatures. However, there’s a chance that you might find yourself reeling in a variety of sacks. These can contain cooking ingredients, Sollant (money), Trait Unlockstones, and much more.
You can pull in quite a lot of rewards while Fishing, but if your catch gets away, you still lose your bait. Fishing holds quite a few fun rewards from what we’ve gathered, but there may be other secrets hiding beneath the waves. It’s certainly one of the more worthwhile optional activities in the game.
