Torchlight Infinite is not a complex game by any means, but getting started can be tricky, especially if this is your first time playing something of this particular genre. Knowing how to go about character building while balancing skills and other aspects can get slightly confusing.
Here are seven easy beginner tips for those getting into Torchlight Infinite for the first time.

1) Don't be afraid to try new heroes
When you hit up a new game, you often tend to choose a hero and stick to it. This could be because their playstyle suits you or that you've spent a few hours learning everything about the character. While this is natural, it will hamper progress and your ability to understand Torchlight Infinite in a more holistic manner.
With each character having their flavor in terms of abilities and skills, it's a good idea to try out as many as you can. While you may understandably not like all of them, it gives you insight into how they function in-game. This will allow you to pick and choose the perfect hero down the line.
It will take some time (not to mention effort) to try them all out, but it's better to sample them and see what's what before deciding to settle on character that you love.
2) Take your time and understand how stats work
Understanding stats and how they work and affect your character is vital to progression. Although it may seem boring, you will have to read about stats and how they function. You can find four pages worth of stats under the information tab in the Inventory Menu,
The first page is the general overview of the stats, including information such as DPS (damage/second), how much Mana/Energy the character has, and how good (or bad) they are at Defense (Survival). The second page details stats per skill equipped. The third page contains stats related to Life, Survival, and Resistance; the final page outlines other information.
Keep in mind that you don't have to min-max stats to make your character the very best that ever was, but knowing what to improve upon will make a lot of difference. This will make your playthrough easier in many ways and allow you to progress faster in most instances.
3) Keep moving, staying still is a bad idea
Much like any other high-octane game, you cannot stay in one place in Torchlight Infinite. The goal is to move and attack, then dodge when needed, and repeat the progress until no more enemies are in your sight. This can get tedious if you are not used to this kind of gameplay, but it will be worth it.
Given that there will be boss fights in addition to mobs swarming you, knowing when to weave in and out of combat to dodge attacks will be crucial to survival. You could use a few Pactspirits in Torchlight Infinite to even the playing field, but even that may not suffice.
4) Adjust skills to suit your playstyle
When you first start with a character, they will only be able to slot in two skills. Usually, the way to go about this is to have one offensive and one defensive skill. This sort of balances things out to a large extent. However, that's not the end all for things.
Skills in Torchlight Infinite can be fine-tuned to make the most of your character. Knowing how to adjust skills will make a lot of difference. For instance, you can tweak a skill to hit multiple enemies instead of one. This will result in less damage but will give you some crowd control via AoE mechanics.
5) Loot as much as you can
Looting is heavily encouraged in Torchlight Infinite. Your goal after starting the game will be to loot as much as you can (that means everything you see). Equip the loot to boost your stats and make you better at dealing with whatever the game throws at you. Of course, this may not be the best loot in-game, but it will be enough to get you started.
Loot comes in different tiers, and you will be able to see their rarity from the item's color as well as get an in-depth look from your inventory. As with all games of this type, the rarer the loot, the better it will be (in most instances). If for whatever reason you don't like the loot you've picked up, you're free to toss it out.
6) Heal in a safe area/zone
Each character has healing abilities, but to use them you will need Mana. Given that Mana takes time to replenish and the ability itself has charges that need time to recover, you may want to consider when and where to heal. The best option would be to get away from active combat and heal before returning to the fray. This may not be possible every time, but it will be important during boss fights.
7) Don't rush, take your time
When it comes to Torchlight Infinite, you can whiz past from one screen to the next pretty swiftly. However, it's always a good idea to take your time and explore one area before moving on to the next. Rushing is never a good idea as you may lose out on loot hiding in the corners or enemies that may be lurking in the shadows.
