If you are serious about grinding War Thunder, you need to know the nation tier list when it comes to endgame content. War Thunder is a premier title in the military vehicle combat MMO genre and has an extensive collection of vehicles you can grind. The grind in the game takes a lot of time and effort, so this endgame nation tier list is something you should check out to experience the game to its fullest.
This article is up to date as of War Thunder update 'Seek and Destroy'.
This tier list will only take into account the top-tier air and ground vehicles of every nation. Naval vehicles are not taken into account due to the lack of popularity of naval battles, and also because top tier in War Thunder generally means aircraft, tanks, and helicopters.
Note: This tier list is subjective and reflects the opinions of the writer.
Endgame nation tier list for War Thunder
We have categorized all nations in War Thunder into four categories:
This tier list takes into account the effectiveness of both the air and ground vehicles of a nation. This is because mixed battles are very popular in War Thunder. Mixed battles mostly refer to Ground Realistic Battles where you can bring in tanks, planes, and helicopters; all in one match. Therefore, the overall effectiveness of a nation's tech-trees is an important aspect to look into.
S-tier nations in War Thunder
The S-tier nations in War Thunder have the best performance when it comes to their overall effectiveness. In general, Russian ground vehicles are better while US aircraft perform better. But overall, the air and ground vehicles of both these nations outclass every other nation with their performance.
U.S.A.
The American tech tree gives you access to various versions of the Abrams MBT, which is an excellent platform. Along with that, the ADATS acts both as an anti-air and anti-tank vehicle.
American aircraft in War Thunder is top-notch. Fighters like F-15s and F-16s have excellent CAP and CAS abilities. Your US lineup is also complemented by various powerful helicopters like Apaches and Cobras.
U.S.S.R
The Soviet ground tree offers various variants of the T-72, T-80, and T-90 MBTs. These tanks are very mobile, have excellent armor, and great firepower. The upper front plates of the Soviet/Russian tanks are some of the toughest in the game. They tend to resist even the strongest shells. The Pantsir SPAA is the best anti-aircraft vehicle in the game currently.
The Soviet/Russian aircraft are second only to the US ones. They are the main rivals of the American aircraft in the game and just have slightly lesser armament than the US ones. The helicopters, like Ka-50 and Ka-52 are arguably some of the best in the game.

A-tier nations in War Thunder
A-tier nations in war thunder are extremely good but fall short of S-tier ones due to the lack of either very competitive aircraft, SPAAs, or other factors. But even then, these nations have good vehicles that can go head-to-head with the S-tier nations.
Germany
The German ground tree provides you with different variants of the Leopard 2 tank, with the Leopard 2A7 being the best. The Leopards are excellent tanks for sniping and staying hull-down due to their excellent turret protection. The wedge-shaped armor at the front of the turret can withstand every shell in the game.
Along with that, the Leopard 2A6 and the 2A7 get the second most powerful APFSDS in War Thunder. The best SPAA that the Germans have is the FlaRakRad. It used to be a lot more powerful, but due to their missiles getting nerfed, the SPAA is a bit hard to use.
The German air tree gives you two MiG-29 variants and an F-4F variant. These planes are excellent at air combat but are still outclassed by a lot of other top-tier planes. They also lack a good amount of ground attack ordnance, making them more suitable for just CAP roles.
The best helicopter for Germany is the EC-665 Tiger UHT. It gets fire-and-forget anti-tank missiles. However, the limited range of just six kilometers makes it an easy target for enemy SPAA. On top of this, the UHT has no gun, and so it cannot defend itself in a close-range aerial engagement.
Sweden
In the Swedish ground tree, you are offered a few different variants of the Strv 122 tank, which is a modified and up-armored Leopard 2A5. You also get the Leopard 2A6 in the Finnish sub tech-tree, making Sweden a very strong nation when it comes to endgame tanks.
The best SPAA in Sweden is the ItO 90M, which uses the same missiles as the FlaRakRad. As a result, you might struggle a bit with missile guidance.
In the air, you can use the JAS39 Gripen. It is an excellent fighter and also has a good ground attack ordnance. Despite being an excellent aircraft, the armament load in the JAS39 Gripen is much lower than in the American and Soviet ones. A variant of the Apache attack helicopter is what Sweden gets in the top tier list, but it is a bit less advanced than the American ones.
Great Britain
In the British tech tree, you get access to five variants of the Challenger 2 MBT, as well as the Challenger 3 MBT. Although they have good firepower, the tanks are slow and heavy, and the armor protection is not as good as the tanks of other nations. Still, they are formidable tanks on the battlefield.
In the SPAA department, Britain gets a variant of the ADATS. But unlike the American one, this ADATS does not have an auto-cannon, making the missiles the only armaments it has.
Compared to the ground, the British air tree is very strong, with aircraft like Tornados, Harriers, and also a Gripen. However, like Sweden, the ground attack ordnance is a bit lacking. Britain also gets a variant of the Apache attack helicopter, which is a little less advanced than the American ones.
B-tier nations in War Thunder
The B-tier nations in this tier list have great vehicles, but they are a bit behind in the overall meta of the game currently. While all these nations, especially China, have great lineups, they do have their flaws, like being outperformed by opponents or lacking in a specific aspect of the game.
China:
Chinese ground vehicles are formidable. The ZTZ series tanks, along with the WZ1001 and the VT4A1, make a powerful lineup. But the SPAA part of the tech tree needs improvements. The current top-tier Chinese SPAA, the Tor-M1, is hard to use, and the missiles leave a huge trail of smoke that enemy aircraft can spot and evade.
In the air, the J-11, a Chinese-made version of the Russian Su-27, is more or less a pure air defense fighter. The JH-7A is a dedicated ground attacker with extensive armaments, but enemy SPAA can easily shoot it down. The Z-10, China's top-tier helicopter, has excellent anti-air capabilities, but its ground attack abilities are just decent.
France:
The French provide various versions of the Leclerc series tanks. The tanks have good mobility and firepower. However, the armor has a lot of glaring weak spots, making the tanks less survivable. In the SPAA aspect, France also gets the ItO-90M, due to which it has similar problems to that of Sweden and Germany.
The French air tree has many great options, like various variants of the Mirage as well as F-16s. They are good at both CAP and CAS roles, but planes like the SU-27, MiG-29, and F-15 heavily outperform them. The Tiger HAD Block 2 is the best French helicopter, but it is an easy target for both SPAA and other aircraft.
Israel:
The Israeli ground tree has different variants of the Merkava Mark 3 and 4 MBTs. Their tanks have good firepower but are big targets and have much longer reload times when compared with other tanks. The armor is not the best, making these tanks easy targets for tanks for the higher-tier nations.
In the air, Israel has versions of the F-15 and F-16 fighters, but they are more suited for CAP roles as their ground attack ordnance is pretty lacking. For helicopters, Israel gets versions of the Apache and the Black Hawk helicopters, which have much less armament than their American versions.
C-tier nations in War Thunder
The two C-tier nations, Japan and Italy, both lack in the ground aspect of the game, with Japan also falling short in the aerial aspect. This does not mean that these are bad nations to play as; they are just harder to play than the other nations mentioned in this tier list.
Japan:
The Japanese ground tree gets versions of the Type 90 and Type 10 MBTs. They have good firepower and excellent reload speeds but are woefully lacking in armor. The Type 81(C) SPAA fires IR guided missiles, which are pretty powerful. The vehicle, however, does not get radar tracking, making it harder to spot aircraft.
The air tree has versions of the F-15 and F-16. However, they get minimal ground attack ordnance and, as such, are suited just for CAP roles. The nation also has its version of the Apache, but the amount of armament is lower than the American ones.
Italy:
Although Italy gets a version of the Leopard 2A7 that is slightly better than the German version, the rest of the tanks in the tech tree basically have no armor against most APFSDS rounds in War Thunder.
The best Italian SPAA is the OTOMATIC, but the only armaments it has are proximity and low-caliber APFSDS shells. This makes the vehicle deadly against tanks and aircraft at a close range, but it's almost powerless at long ranges.
In the air, the Italian tree is decent, with planes like the F-16, Harrier, Tornadoes, and a Gripen. Some of these planes are better for CAS, while others are better for CAP.
The AH-129D is the best helicopter that the nation gets. It has Spike fire and fire-and-forget missiles, which are pretty good, but tend to not do much damage. The number of missiles the helicopter can carry is also pretty low.
This is all we have for the War Thunder nation tier list when it comes to endgame content. There is no D-tier, as there is no 'bad' vehicle as such. The vehicles differ from each other in performance, but in the hands of an experienced player, the C-tier vehicles can easily fight the S-tier ones.
Also, keep in mind that the meta is regularly changing, and this tier list might not be accurate in the future. New vehicles are regularly added, and that can easily change these rankings.
