The low survivability of bombers in War Thunder has been a topic for ongoing discussions both in the game and in forums. War Thunder is known for its historically accurate vehicles and its realistic damage models. Although the game delivers on these aspects, for the most part, the weak damage model of bombers is one instance where the historically accurate portion falters. In short, the bombers in the game are too fragile.
This article will talk about the current damage models of bombers in this vehicle combat MMO and why they should be buffed.
War Thunder: Why should the damage models of bombers be buffed?
In War Thunder, bombers are generally considered easy targets for fighters due to their lack of speed, maneuverability, and the inconsistency of their damage. As a result, you will often see a single fighter go after a bomber and successfully shoot it down.

However, for the game to be historically accurate, and to make the bomber gameplay more engaging, bombers should have a buffed damage model.
The B-17 Flying Fortress is one of the best examples of this. During the Second World War, B-17s were known for their ability to survive multiple enemy strafing runs. Even though many were shot down, lots of B-17s came back even after suffering extreme battle damage. Moreover, multiple turrets all over the plane helped it to keep away fighters and defend itself quite effectively.
Unfortunately, a single fighter can shoot down a B-17 pretty easily in the game. It is easy to dodge the machine gun fire from the turrets and shoot down the bomber from any direction. The wings are even more fragile and break off with just a few hits from fighters.

A buffed damage model and better damage from the turrets would deter any single fighter from going after the bomber. It would make for better gameplay as it would give the bomber pilot a chance to fight back. It would also make the bombers more historically accurate.
