Warframe Broken War build guide: How to make it Steel Path-viable

Broken War is one of the most used melee weapons in Warframe. However, this is more due to its accessibility and doesn't necessarily mean that it's among the best melee weapons. Broken War is handed to you as a quest reward for beating The Second Dream, and it comes with a pre-installed Orokin Catalyst. This, in turn, makes it easily moddable for a newcomer and puts out great damage for what it is.

In this guide, we'll explain how to utilize its potential through the best possible Broken War build for this stage in Warframe.

It's possible to make a good enough Broken War build without sinking any Forma into it. However, if you want to get into it right away, there are some slight investments you should make. Get a Blood Rush from the Circuit or a Necralisk bounty. You can also get it for cheap from other players if you buy it unranked. Then, rank this up to lvl 8, which will take a good amount of Endo and Credits, but not as exorbitantly high as the max rank.

You'll also have to get a Vicious Frost and Gladiator Might, obtainable from Spy missions and Plains of Eidolon bounties respectively. The rest of the build uses common mods you're likely to have lying around if you've gotten this far into the game at a reasonable pace.

If you don't have Swooping Falcon, you can use whatever Stance mod you have, as there's enough extra mod capacity here to offset a polarity mismatch. The playstyle is simple: identify which one of your combos contains forced Slash procs, and use that one.

If you're using the prescribed Swooping Falcon stance, for example, this is on the neutral melee-spam combo Diving Kestrel, it deals significantly more damage than the sheet DPS tells you.

The best part about this build is that you can upgrade it into an end-game Broken War build which we'll discuss below.

Broken War is a Slash-heavy weapon with good base critical and status, which is enough to make it perform decently a few hundred levels into Steel Path. The best way to spread damage reliably in the current meta is to use Melee Influence. For this, we'll add some Electric damage into the Broken War with one Elemental mod. The rest of the build works like any other hybrid scaling build with Blood Rush and Weeping Wounds.

We also use Condition Overload for our base damage, which means using a status primer weapon or sentinel (ideally Diriga). Additionally, since we're relying on tick damage and status, you can use Volt's Shock Trooper, and replace Shocking Touch with the melee Elementalist mod.

Despite its popularity among melee weapons, Broken War has a decent enough Riven Disposition for you to consider getting a Riven. Try to roll for at least two of the following stats with a harmless negative:

  • Electricity
  • Critical Damage
  • Melee Damage
  • Status Chance
  • Range
  • Attack Speed
