Warframe: Volt Prime build guide (end-game and beginner setups)

Warframe Volt Prime build
Volt is a deceptively useful Warframe (Image via Digital Extremes)

Many Warframe players opt to get Volt as their starter frame. Yet, with the right build, Volt can carry you to the end game, and remain relevant throughout your journey. The original speedster Warframe, Volt can gain everything from high-range nuke to survivability with specific mod setups.

Volt Prime is the Orokin-touched variant that beginners will not have, but it is just as popular for late-game activities including Eidolon Hunts. In this build guide for Volt Prime, we will provide both a beginner setup to set your course through the early and mid-game, as well as min-maxed end-game setups.

Other than the shiny coat of Orokin paint, Volt Prime only has a marginal edge on Volt's stats. In practice, you can use all the builds provided here on either variant - the only difference will be Forma cost.

A Volt build does not take much to come online. In the beginner build provided here, for example, you will find all the mods by the time you have reached Pluto.

Most of these mods will fall into your lap by this point if you are hitting the endless nodes and doing some low-level bounties in the open world. The only exception is Boreal's Hatred, available cheaply via trading with other players.

The only additional concern here is the Energy economy. This build rocks high efficiency, but you may still need to compensate with some form of Energy regeneration - such as Zenurik - if you are planning to spam abilities. Alternatively, you can buy the Energy Nexus mod from another player and slot it into this build.

Mods used:

  • Steel Charge (Aura): Rifle Amp or Pistol Amp can also be used
  • If you unlock the Exilus slot, you can move the Rush mod here.
  • Stretch
  • Boreal's Hatred (Use Rank 7 Redirection if you don't have that mod)
  • Capacitance (Use Continuity if you don't have that mod)
  • Intensify
  • Augur Reach
  • Rush (If you have put Rush in the Exilus slot, use Augur Secrets or Augur Message)
  • Streamline

Warframe Volt Prime build for Steel Path and ESO (3-Forma)

Volt Prime is a popular pick for ESO farmers (Image via Overframe)
Volt Prime is a popular pick for ESO farmers (Image via Overframe)

The idea of this Volt Prime build is to farm Focus in the ESO in a hassle-free and self-sustaining way. Even if you do not have Arcane Energize, the Arcane Stretch mod is often enough for energy-sustain in the rounds.

Mods used:

  • Growing Power (Aura)
  • Primed Sure Footed (Exilus)
  • Streamline
  • Rolling Guard (Can be replaced with Augur Reach for greater effect)
  • Capacitance (Can be replaced with Blind Rage and one additional Forma for greater effect)
  • Overextended
  • Primed Continuity
  • Transient Fortitude
  • Precision Intensify
  • Archon Stretch
  • Arcane: Arcane Energize
  • Arcane: Molt Augmented

With a few alterations, you can also use this build as a general-purpose build in the Steel Path. The capacitance will cap you off with a shield-gate refresh whenever necessary, and the rest of the ability modifier stats are balanced to make use of your entire skillset.

For the Steel Path, it is highly recommended that you use some sort of Helminth appendage on top. Top Helminth abilities for this Volt Prime build include:

  • Terrify (as an Armor Strip tool)
  • Breach Surge (for more area CC and nuke)
  • Roar (Buffs your weapons as well as your abilities)

Generally, you want to replace your first ability with the chosen Helminth ability.

6-Forma Volt Prime build for Eidolon Hunts

Volt Prime is great for Eidolon Hunts (Image via Overframe)

Volt Prime is a go-to for veteran Eidolon hunters, as his skillset seems almost tailor-made for this activity. Eidolon Hunts are all about efficiency through DPS, and thus this Volt Prime build is also min-maxed for DPS.

Backed by high Ability Strength, we use Eclipse as our Helminth weapon buff to shoot the Eidolon's health. In the shield-phase downtimes, the third ability provides excellent critical damage buff to the Amp.

Mods used:

  • Corrosive Projection or Dead Eye (Aura)
  • Preparation (Exilus)
  • Vigorous Swap
  • Precision Intensify (You can use Shock Trooper if you do not armor-strip the Eidolons and run your weapon with Fire damage to make Radiation)
  • Primed Redirection
  • Adaptation
  • Transient Fortitude
  • Blind Rage
  • Narrow-Minded
  • Primed Sure Footed
  • Arcane: Arcane Acceleration
  • Arcane: Arcane Momentum

Note that the build does not arrange Energy regeneration at all, so you may need to spam energy pads for that purpose. Alternatively, you can run Arcane Nullifier to ignore the magnetic procs.
