The Rust August update for 2024 is right around the corner, and players might be wondering what it has in store for them. As reported by SHADOWFRAX in the last few months, the update will simply be a filler addition. Facepunch Studios has teased the potential changes and additions accompanying the upcoming force-wipe, but the biggest changes for 2024 will be implemented in the September update.

Players have certain expectations from Facepunch Studios, and the developer has promptly fulfilled them since the game's release since 2013. The company is expected to do the same with the upcoming Rust updates.

This article provides a detailed preview of all the expected changes coming in the Rust August update.

All expected changes in Rust August update (2024)

The Rust August force-wipe update will go live on August 1, 2024, at 7 pm BST / 2 pm EST. While it will bring no major game-changing additions, Facepunch Studios has teased certain changes that will improve the general quality of life for all players. Better yet, it will provide tools for solo warriors and small squads to have a better gaming experience when playing against squads.

New Alarm

With the latest force-wipe, players will get a chance to get their hands on a brand-new primitive-tier alarm system in Rust. Known as the Tin-Can Alarm, this deployable will be the perfect tool for solo players and small groups to stay wary of their surroundings.

The Tin-Can Alarm in Rust is extremely cheap to craft. You can craft it using:

  • 100 Wood
  • 2 Empty Tuna Cans

This deployable can be placed on the procedural map, including Monuments (except Oil Rigs and the Cargo Ship). When deployed, players have a chance to draw out a trip wire that will act as the main trap for enemies. When enemies step on the trip wire, the alarm goes off in a 50-meter radius, alerting all players about a breach in the point-of-contact.

According to us, this item is best used in Monument entrances. Players can booby-trap the area and peacefully loot it. In case the alarm gets triggered, they can either play strategically and eliminate the potential threat or take cover and live to fight another day.

Vendor price changes

The Travelling Vendor and the Vendor market price changes were introduced with Rust's Road Renegades update for July 2024. While the core concept of these new additions was met with positivity, players soon discovered means to exploit the system and take advantage of it. Some players ended up being extremely rich on servers, while others barely benefitted from the features.

We believe the upcoming Vendor price changes for the Rust August update will put restrictions on unlimited trading and improve the overall market economy within the game's official and private servers. This will balance the economic activities that take place, allowing players of all calibers to shine.

Item buoyancy implementation

The Rust August update will implement item buoyancy in the game. Players have always demanded improved looting in water. Items, when left loose, always sink to the bottom of the ocean floor and seemingly disappear.

We believe the implementation of item buoyancy in the Rust August update will ensure that lighter materials float in water, while heavier gear, such as weapons and armor, slowly sink below. This will massively improve the looting experience and combat in open water.
