Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) has been around for over a decade. In December 2024, this Star Wars MMORPG turned 13 years old. Not many multiplayer games survive this long and still keep getting new updates and new players. SWTOR has seen many new features introduced over the last years and has had its ups and downs, as all games do. With the onset of 2025, we can look forward to what we can expect from SWTOR this year.
In this article, we will take a look at what happened on SWTOR over the last year and what we can expect this year.
SWTOR: A brief overview of the game in 2024
The year started with the introduction of season 6 of Galactic Seasons named 'Building a Foundations,' followed by the introduction of Date Night. It is a feature where you can create romantic storylines with some companions from the expansions, like Lana Beniko, Arcann, Theron Shan, and Koth Vortena.
Then, in May, the biggest expansion since 'Onslaught' was introduced. It was called update 7.5 'Desperate Defiance' and brought with it a new main storyline, introduced the Basilisk prototype pet, a new event, and modernized the graphics of Hutta.
The subsequent storyline additions to the 'Desperate Defiance' over the year. 2024 ended with update 7.6 'Galactic Threads', which brought along with it the new Dynamic Encounters, the Propagator Core XR-53 single-boss Operation, and major graphic modernization on planets like Tython, Korriban, Hoth, and Ilum.

What to expect from SWTOR in 2025?
Keith Kanneg, the Executive Producer of SWTOR has mentioned that the first quarter of 2025 will see the introduction of update 7.6.1, which will bring along with it the next Galactic Season. He has also hinted that the major game update 7.7 is coming soon, although he has not specified what it will include.
However, recent changes to the game, like the introduction of Dynamic Encounters and graphics modernizations show that Broadsword has big plans for the future of the game since they took over from EA. The changes mentioned above may seem ordinary, but such game-changing features have been introduced after a long time.
If all goes well, 2025 looks like it might be a great year for further Star Wars The Old Republic development.
