What is 'Ward Cheese' in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria?

WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria’s “Ward Cheese” strategy has technically been around since the game mode’s launch. While there’s still a bit of debate out on whether this is an exploit or not, it’s something groups have been doing to tackle bosses on Heroic/Mythic difficulty, to make life a bit easier. While many players are incredibly powerful, they are still having issues defeating some of the harder raid bosses.

However, if you and your group coordinate, and take advantage of Ward Cheese in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria, you can defeat even the most powerful bosses without too much effort. Then, in no time you’ll be able to afford gear upgrades, cosmetics, or amazing mounts. Here’s how this Remix-exclusive strategy works.

Disclaimer: The effectiveness of this may change, if Blizzard decides to hotfix it.

How to use ‘ward cheese’ to trivialize Raid bosses in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria

‘Ward Cheese’ is an interesting strategy in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria, that allows players to essentially one-shot almost any raid boss in the game. It requires the entire group to have one of two gems. One person, the “Ward Target” needs the Lifestorm Meta Gem. The other players in the group need the Ward of Salvation Meta Gem.

Here’s what they do:

  • Lifestorm: Summon a storm. Call down five bolts of lightning every 1s. Each bolt inflicts Nature damage to an enemy within 30 yards. During the storm, three flowers grow around the caster. After 3s, the flowers bloom, restoring health and granting Haste to allies for 10s.
  • Ward of Salvation: Restore health to an ally and grant them a Ward of Salvation for 10s, absorbing damage equal to the overhealing. While the Ward of Salvation persists, all healing taken grants absorb instead of healing. When the Ward expires, it explodes, inflicting Holy damage equal to the remaining absorb to all enemies within 40y, split evenly.

The person who is chosen to be the Ward Target needs to find a good place in the room, preferably a corner, or a wall. This is so that the flowers bloom as close to the player as possible. The next step is to pull the boss. The healers need to tag the boss at least once with an attack spell, likely so they get credit for taking part in the fight.

Everyone needs to use Ward of Salvation on the Ward Target player, and then the healers in the raid need to spam as many heals as they possibly can. It’s been said certain gem effects (Warmth) and abilities (Guardian Spirit) may not increase the shield, so keep that in mind. After ten seconds is up, the shield will be massive, detonate, and obliterate whatever boss is in range.

The bonus haste from Lifestorm will make getting those heals out so much easier in the ten seconds you have between the activation and the detonation phase of this trick. There are certain bosses that this Ward Cheese strategy will be incredibly useful on in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria, a good example is Durumu.

While farming up a lot of Bronze (and claiming your free 40K Bronze) will help you upgrade your gear, this is still arguably the fastest method of defeating bosses right now if you’re simply going for speed. If you want to fight the bosses normally, I don’t recommend this at all.

WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria is a limited-time mode in World of Warcraft. While it’s been incredibly fun, it’s not been without controversy, such as the Gulper Frog exploit, and the nerf that followed dividing the community.
