Hunter Killers in The Forever Winter make sure the players aren't getting too fed. The gameis set in a world that has been destroyed and ravaged by an ongoing war between various factions that utilize massive war machines and automatons that brutalize any innocent civilian caught between them.

Players take the role of a Scav, which is one of the last surviving groups of civilians that are not part of any faction. They are like rats that scurry around the battlefield to find and collect precious loot and resources like water. However, to make sure the Scavs don't get any highly sensitive items or precious loot, there are the Hunter Killers in The Forever Winter, whose only job is to keep the Scavs in check.

Hunter Killers in The Forever Winter are special units that are deployed only when the Scavs find some sensitive high-value items like data chips. Once they are deployed, a message will display on the screen, notifying the player that once they start coming, they will not stop. The only way to survive the Hunter Killers is by successfully extracting in The Forever Winter.

The events that spawn Hunter Killers are:

  1. Searching and looting Weapon Tech
  2. Looting Data Cache
  3. Any area with high-value loot, in these areas Hunter Killers spawn at intervals
  4. When you have a high total loot value in your backpack
  5. When you have spent too much time in your raid
  6. Looting Neurolinks

We highly recommend avoiding the Hunter Killers in your initial runs. You will not stand a chance at all against them when you first start playing. At first, try to mostly hide during your runs, gather some loot, and silently get out. If you do it right and hide properly, you will see the giant machines destroy themselves, and you won't have to spend a single bullet.

Once the giant machines are dead, go in silently and get what loot you can find, before retiringto the Innards. Sell all of your loot and save enough to buy some decent gear to have a chance at surviving the onslaught of the Hunter Killers in The Forever Winter. In the later parts of the game, you must adapt and learn how to confront the Killers in order to retrieve the high-value loot.
