You can unlock new pickaxes using the Memetic menu, specifically in the infrastructure tree, and can be crafted using the workbench.

Once you have your pickaxe, use it to mine Gold Ore. Gold can then be used to make Gold bars. These bars can be sold to merchants for a hefty price of 4000 Energy. If you're having trouble finding Gold Ore, try the following locations:
Lone Wolf Wastes: This level 50 area is one of the best gold ore deposits in the game. You can find clumps of Gold Ore scattered across the location.
The Iron Ridge: The ridge is a depot of various minerals. This area is especially likely to have gold.
Meyer's Market Ruins: Explore the area and talk with the merchants; you may have a chance to find some hidden Gold or Gold Ore in Once Human.
