The Destiny 2 community found out about a misleading ad that Bungie put via the Revenant Act III trailer, featuring the new Slayer's Fang Shotgun. On one hand, the weapon has mixed reviews from the playerbase regarding its power in the sandbox. On the other, an error from the developer's team seems to have put quite an expectation on the players, ultimately shattered later on.
The Revenant trailer showcased the Slayer's Fang Shotgun to interact with enemies, and summon special Void projectiles from the air.
While the edit did seem like the weapon was doing all the trick, it was nothing other than the new "Old God's Rite" perk from the Artifact. A Reddit post from user TehSavior recently shed some light on this, stating:
"Whoever did the act 3 trailer really messed up with the shotgun. They put the shotgun's name on the screen, show someone getting kills with the shotgun, and then immediately cut to a rain of void damage after the kill in the same shot. The shotgun doesn't do the void rain, that's an artifact perk. Why did y'all advertise it as part of the shotgun"
The official Destiny 2 team quickly reacted to this, responding with the following answer:
"We were trying to cram a shot of the Artifact perk activating in the trailer, but looking back, it does come across as seemingly caused by the Shotgun. This wasn’t our intent but appreciate the feedback and we will try to make the functionality of different weapons/abilities more clear in future trailers."
Multiple community members came forward and expressed their disappointment, claiming the weapon to be mediocre, and certain synergies would have been nice.
User Fenixfiress even wrote:
"You know Bungie is losing it when people are mad about the trailer, their all time savior..."
Other community members u/Soul_of_Miyazaki and u/Bocop even poked fun at Bungie and heavily criticized how the company did a poor job on the trailer.
User u/Sdraco134 said that they knew the Void projectiles weren't part of the Shotgun because they had already seen the perks beforehand. Even so, a change was expected nonetheless.
Slayer's Fang reportedly nerfed after final release in Destiny 2
Aside from the absence of Void projectiles, there also seems to be a slight change with the Nightsworn Sight Intrinsic as well. Before the weapon's launch, the database would show the perk granting true sight, auto-load from reserves, and weakening submunitions.
After release, it seems that the perk only grants reload speed instead of auto-load, leaving players confused, as it is sort of a nerf on release.
