Throne and Liberty released its open beta on July 18th and many playing the title are wondering if their progress will continue to exist after the open beta ends. Unfortunately, all progress will be wiped on July 23rd, the last day of the open beta.

Throne and Liberty is a free-to-play MMO that is soon to be released by developer NCSoft and publisher Amazon Games. It will be an open world PvPvE MMO with a focus on massive-scale PvP and world boss content. The title will feature some content that has never been seen before in the MMO genre, such as the Morph forms.

If you're a seasoned player or just someone looking forward to the full release of the game, we'll explain what can be carried over for you here.

Players who've been enjoying the open beta may be disappointed to find out that their progress will not be carried over. This means that any experience, items, or Throne of Liberty achievements you gain will be completely deleted at the end of the period.

This is a very common practice for developers who stage a beta, and there can be many reasons it's beneficial to do so. Not wiping progress, perhaps most importantly, would give any players who can't access it a disadvantage on launch. Often, a beta may only be available in certain regions, even if the full launch is intended to have a global release. An event like this may also have inconsistent server access due to developers using test servers or abnormal settings for gathering data.

Another good reason developers may have for wiping progress is that it allows them to overtune gameplay mechanics to get more test information. In the free-to-play MMO Throne and Liberty beta, the developers have instituted very high exp rates and skill point gains. This lets more players test high-level content and builds for their enjoyment and also furthers the developers' understanding of player interaction. Providing streamlined leveling can also convince hesitant new players that the full release will be worth the time it takes to reach the end game.

If you've been thinking about trying out this game, it's recommended that you join the open beta. This will be the perfect chance for you to try out all possible Throne and Liberty builds, explore the world, and get a feel for the game. Joining is entirely free, so you've got nothing to lose by getting in and seeing if Throne and Liberty might be the right title for you.
