World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s tank classes are all solid, but some are certainly better than others when it comes to raiding. Tanks are arguably one of the most important parts of a raid as well. They must understand all strategies and tactics, where to stand, and when. Tanks need to know when to hit their defensive cooldowns and swap to another player so they don’t get one-hit by boss mechanics. This isn’t to say that a lower-tier tank isn’t useful; they just need a bit more skill than some others.
This particular tier list is just one writer’s opinion, and other players’ experiences can certainly vary. All of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s tank classes are good, but these are the ones that stand out the most to me.
What tank classes are the strongest in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s Aberrus raid?
1) S-Tier
- Protection Paladin
When Paladins received their buffs in patch 10.0.7, all three specs began to stand out in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. They received a few changes in the 10.1 update, but in no way does it change that they are arguably the most powerful tank in the game right now.
In addition to their buffs and powerful abilities like Divine Shield and Devotion Aura’s -3% damage to all players, they also have incredible Raid-tier set bonuses. Some people think Protection Paladins belong in the A-Tier of tank classes of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, but I think they stand on their own, just a bit higher than the rest.
2) A-Tier
- Brewmaster Monk
- Blood Death Knight
A-Tier tank classes will be seen in most group comps. They’re among the strongest in the game and bring utility and damage in solid amounts. There truthfully isn’t much separating the A-Tier and S-Tier in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s tank classes, so I can see the argument of making no S-Tier this time. When it comes to Monks, Brewmaster is honestly the only good Monk spec, in my personal opinion.
Then there’s Blood Death Knight, who have plenty of survivability, and when it comes to magic-based fights, they’re at the top of the heap. In addition to Death Grip/Gorefiend’s Grasp to pull, Anti-Magic Zone gives them incredible Magic Defense, absorbing a healthy amount of damage.
3) B-Tier
- Vengeance Demon Hunter
- Protection Warrior
B-Tier tank classes in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight are decent, but they fall off somewhere in one of the three necessary topics: damage, utility, and survival. They’re good classes, but they just don’t stack up to the rest.
Personally, I like Vengeance Demon Hunter for Chaos Brand. +5% magic damage for anyone? That’s fantastic. However, it’s a World of Warcraft: Dragonflight tank class that is annoying to properly optimize the talents for.
Protection Warriors did get nerfed a bit, and while they weren’t terrible, the buffs to other tanks pushed down Prot in World of Warcraft. Few tanks absorb damage like them, but they lack a useful kit for Aberrus content.
4) C-Tier
- Guardian Druid
I think Guardian Druids are probably going to be awesome in Mythic+ progression, but when it comes to raids, they just are just lacking. Lacking what? Everything, quite frankly. Their cooldowns are mediocre. They also require a great deal of skill and practice to match up to any other tank in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. This could change, but for now, they are just a letdown.
As WoW's Season 2 rolls on, this will no doubt change. But for now, this is where I feel all the tank classes stand out for the current raid content.
