The WoW 20th Anniversary event brings a wealth of updates, including the Blackrock Depths raid. Created in Vanilla World of Warcraft, Blackrock Depths was a massive dungeon, intended to feel like a raid. It’s been split up in the modern Group Finder, but in the old days, it was an incredible challenge. Players can now tackle Blackrock Depths in three wings on LFR difficulty or challenge the whole thing as a Normal/Heroic raid.

This will be available during the WoW 20th Anniversary event and is a great way for players to pick up some great Blackrock Depths-themed gear. It isn’t a source of Bronze Celebration Tokens, except for the introductory quest and the weekly completion quest, though. Here’s what you need to know about this amazing new (retro) raid.

The Blackrock Depths Raid during the WoW 20th Anniversary event can be tackled in a few ways. The Normal and Heroic versions are Flexible—up to 15 players can join your raid group, and the raid will change its difficulty based on the number of players. Otherwise, you can do the LFR (Raid Finder) difficulty.

This is split into three wings: The Elemental Overlords, Shadowforge City, and The Imperial Seat. You can see the breakdown of the boss list below and where they reside. These bosses are in their same locations but do feature some new mechanics. None of it is incredibly challenging, but don’t think it’s the same fight from vanilla.

The Elemental Overlords

  • Lord Roccor
  • Bael’Gar
  • Lord Incendius

Shadowforge City

  • Golem Lord Argelmach
  • The Seven
  • General Angerforge

The Imperial Seat

  • Ambassador Flamelash
  • Emperor Dagran Thaurissan

Each of the boss sets gives specific item level gear upon defeat, and the table below shows exactly what you can expect from these Blackrock Depths bosses.

In addition, the five optional bosses are still around, in their vanilla locations. These fights aren’t bringing tons of new mechanics to the table, but they do have loot, so they’re worth going out of your way to kill them. The following optional bosses are in the Blackrock Depths Raid during the WoW 20th Anniversary event.

  • High Interrogator Gerstahn
  • Houndmaster Grebmar
  • Fineous Darkvire
  • Phalanax
  • Pyromancer Loregrain

The best part is that players get the same item level gear that they would for Nerub-ar Palace. You won’t be out-gearing other raiders, but it’s a great way to catch up, if you want to do the current Season One raid, but aren’t quite there yet.

How Timewarped Relic Coffer Keys work

In addition to loot drops, bosses in Blackrock Depths also drop Timewarped Relic Coffer Keys during the WoW 20th Anniversary event. Each of the bosses drops three of these keys, regardless of difficulty, and the optional bosses drop one to two each. You can hoard up to 120 of these per difficulty level.

The purpose of these is to let players buy specific raid gear, from the Blackrock Depths content. Each piece costs 40 Timewarped Relic Coffer Keys, and the keys are tracked by the raid difficulty. Through this system, it appears you can purchase a total of three pieces of gear per vendor.

LFR Keys grant Item Level 584 gear, Normal Raids grant Item Level 597 gear, and Heroic Raid keys grant Item Level 606 gear from the vendors in the WoW 20th Anniversary event area.
