WoW Cataclysm Classic Tailoring guide

WoW Cataclysm Classic Tailoring
If you want to efficiently go from 1-525 in WoW Cataclysm Classic Tailoring, look no further! (image via Blizzard Entertainment)

Tailoring can be a very tedious experience in WoW Cataclysm Classic. It depends on how easily you can amass a huge collection of materials in one go. Thankfully, if you’re starting the profession anew at a high level, it will be easy enough to go to older areas, or simply buy most of these from vendors or on the Auction Hall. It’s up to you how and when, but we’ll give you the most efficient way to grind each section of the cloth-based profession up for the Cataclysm expansion.

Whether you’re a Worgen, Goblin, or something else entirely, we’ve got you covered on what materials you need and anything else that might be important. Tailoring won’t be nearly as frustrating in WoW Cataclysm Classic with this guide.

WoW Cataclysm Classic Tailoring - 1 - 525

Note: If you’ve already completed some of these levels on your character, feel free to skip to one of the sections below that match your current level of WoW Cataclysm Classic Tailoring. In addition, with all cloth requirements, either farm them or purchase them in bulk from the Auction House. Whichever works best for you:

  • Apprentice: 1-75
  • Journeyman: 75-125
  • Expert: 125-200
  • Artisan: 200-300
  • Master: 300-350
  • Grand Master: 350-425
  • Illustrious: 425-525

1) Apprentice (1-75)

Items needed

  • 204 Linen Cloth
  • 59 Coarse Thread

Items to make

  • 1-45: 102 x Bolt of Linen Cloth (204 Linen Cloth)
  • 40-67: 35 x Linen Belt (35 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 35 Coarse Thread)
  • 67-75: Reinforced Linen Cape (16 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 24 Coarse Thread)

Apprentice is the level you begin crafting, whether Leatherworking or Tailoring in WoW Cataclysm Classic. You must buy the Coarse Thread from a Tailoring Supplies vendor and either farm the Linen from monsters or buy from the Auction House. This step of the grind is relatively straightforward.

2) Journeyman (75-125)

Grind SFK, Stockades, or Hillsbrad for Wool in WoW Cataclysm Classic (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

Items needed

  • 135 Wool Cloth
  • 43-46 Fine Thread

Items to make

  • 75-100: 45 x Bolt of Woolen Cloth (135 Wool Cloth)
  • 100-110: 13 x Simple Kilt (52 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 13 Fine Thread)
  • 110-125: 15 x Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders (45 Bolt of Woolen Cloth, 30 Fine Thread)

Next, you can train Journeyman Tailoring in WoW Cataclysm Classic. You’ll also need 33 Fine Thread from a Tailoring Supplies Vendor. You may need a few more, depending on how your level-ups go from making the Woolen Shoulders and Simple Kilts go, so plan just a little bit.

3) Expert (125-200)

Items needed

  • 804 Silk Cloth
  • 36 Blue Dye
  • 40 Red Dye
  • 83 Fine Thread
  • 10 Bleach
  • 376 Mageweave Cloth

Items to make

  • 125-145: 201 x Bolt of Silk Cloth (804 Silk Cloth)
  • 145-160: 18 x Azure Silk Hood (36 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 36 Blue Dye, 18 Fine Thread)
  • 160-170: 10 x Silk Headband (30 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 20 Fine Thread)
  • 170-175: 5 x Formal White Shirt (15 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 10 Bleach, 5 Fine Thread)
  • 175-185: 94 x Bolt of Mageweave (376 Mageweave)
  • 185-205: 20 x Crimson Silk Vest (80 Bolt Silk Cloth, 40 Fine Thread, 40 Red Dye)

Things get a bit more complicated during Expert Tailoring in WoW Cataclysm Classic - now you’re adding dyes to the mix. Thankfully, you can purchase these at your local Tailoring Supplies Vendor, so it shouldn’t be a big deal. At this tier, you’ll also start preparing for Artisan, which starts the use of Mageweave.

4) Artisan (200-300)

Items needed

  • 800 Runecloth
  • 20 Silken Thread
  • 71 Heavy Silken Thread
  • 20 Red Dye
  • 5 Orange Dye
  • 75 Rune Thread

Items to make

  • 205-215: 10 x Crimson Silk Pantaloons (40 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 20 Red Dye, 20 Silken Thread)
  • 215-220: 5 x Orange Mageweave Shirt (5 Bolt of Mageweave, 5 Orange Dye, 5 Heavy Silken Thread)
  • 220-230: 10 x Black Mageweave Gloves (20 Bolt of Mageweave, 20 Heavy Silken Thread)
  • 230-250: 23 x Black Mageweave Headband (69 Bolt of Mageweave, 46 Heavy Silken Thread
  • 250-260: 200 x Bolt of Runecloth (800 Runecloth)
  • 260-280: 25 x Runecloth Belt (75 Bolt of Runecloth, 25 Rune thread)
  • 280-300: 25 x Runecloth Gloves (125 Bolt of Runecloth, 50 Rune Thread

You’ll be using some Silk and Mageweave in Artisan Tailoring in WoW Cataclysm Classic, but also farming/purchasing Runecloth. That will be your next big requirement for making useful gear. We’ll need more dyes, and two new types of thread: SIlken and Rune. Both can be purchased from Tailoring Supplies Vendors.

The last two recipes go Yellow early, so you may have to make a few extras. Keep that in mind going forward.

5) Master (300-350)

Netherweave spots: The Deathforge, Manaforge Barrier and Warmaul Hill for WoW Cataclysm Classic (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

Items needed

  • 700 Netherweave Cloth
  • 12 Arcane Dust
  • 20 Knothide Leather
  • 23 Rune Thread

Items to make

  • 300-325: 140 x Bolt of Netherweave (700 Netherweave Cloth)
  • 325-331: 6 x Bolt of Imbued Netherweave (18 Bolt of Netherweave, 12 Arcane Dust)
  • 331-336: 5 x Netherweave Pants (Return to trainer to learn if necessary) (30 Bolt of Netherweave, 5 Rune Thread)
  • 336-346: 10 x Netherweave Boots (60 Bolt of Netherweave, 20 Knothide Leather, 10 Rune Thread)
  • 346-350: 4 x Netherweave Tunic (32 Bolt of Netherweave, 8 Rune Thread)

If you don’t have a friend that skins/isn’t a skinner in WoW Cataclysm Classic, you must purchase the Knothide Leather in all certainty for your Tailoring needs. That goes for the Arcane Dust and Enchantment, as well. We’re closing in on the end though, and the amount of cloth you need will get higher.

Also, the recipes for Pattern: Bolt of Imbued Netherweave, and Netherweave Tunic, are sold by Eiin in Shattrath City (66.2, 68.8).

6) Grand Master (350-440)

Mordrethar is an amazing Frostweave farm for your WoW Cataclysm Classic needs (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

Items needed

  • 1200 Frostweave Cloth
  • 20 Infinite Dust
  • 48 Eternium Thread
  • 50 Bolt of Imbued Frostweave (or an additional 100 Infinite Dust to go with the Frostweave Cloth)
  • 20 Eternal Shadow, Life, or Fire

Items to make

  • 350-375: 240 x Bolt of Frostweave (1200 Frostweave Cloth)
  • 375-380: 5 x Frostwoven Belt (15 Bolt of Frostweave, 5 Eternium Thread)
  • 380-385: 5 x Frostwoven Boots (20 Bolt of Frostweave, 5 Eternium Thread)
  • 385-395: 13 x Frostwoven Cowls (may need more) (65 Bolt of Frostweave, 13 Eternium Thread)
  • 395-400: x Duskweave Belt (35 Bolt of Frostweave, 5 Eternium Thread)
  • 400-405: 5 x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave (20 Bolt of Frostweave, 20 Infinite Dust)
  • 405-410: 5 x Duskweave Wristwraps (40 Bolt of Frostweave, 5 Eternium Thread)
  • 410-415: 5 x Duskweave Gloves (45 Bolt of Frostweave, 5 Eternium Thread)
  • 415-435: 5 x Ebonweave, Moonshroud, or Spellweave (20 Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 40 Eternal Shadow, Life, or Fire)
  • 435-440: 5 x Frostweave Bags (30 Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 10 Eternium)

One of the great changes implemented is that Ebonweave, Moonshroud, and Spellweave do not have a cooldown to make, and location requirements were removed. With this in mind, I recommend taking the time to make 20 of one of these (your choice) for WoW Cataclysm Classic Grand Master Tailoring. That makes life so much easier than making lots of other stuff.

I put “50 Bolt of Imbued Frostweave” on the list because you don’t necessarily have to make them. 20 are required for the Ebonweave, Moonshroud, or Spellweave, and the others are needed for the Frostweave bags. Purchase them from the Auction Hall, or if you have enough Infinite Dust, you can make them.

7) Illustrious (425-525)

Verlok Stand is an amazing spot to AOE grind for Embersilk in WoW Cataclysm Classic (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)
Verlok Stand is an amazing spot to AOE grind for Embersilk in WoW Cataclysm Classic (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

  • 90 Volatile Fire
  • 75 Volatile Water
  • 15 Volatile Air
  • 100 Eternium Thread

What to make

  • 440-450: 365 x Bolt of Embersilk Cloth (1825 Embersilk Cloth)
  • 450-455: 5 x Deathsilk Bracers (10 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 10 Eternium Thread)
  • 455-460: 5 x Deathsilk Boots (15 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 10 Eternium Thread)
  • 460-465: 5 x Deathsilk Leggings (15 Bolt of Embersilk, 10 Eternium Thread)

  • 505-510: 5 x Emberfire Shoulders (30 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 15 Volatile Fire, 15 Volatile Water)
  • 510-516: 6 x Emberfire Belt (60 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 24 Volatile Fire, 24 Volatile Water)
  • 516-518: 2 x Emberfire Gloves (20 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 8 Volatile Fire, 8 Volatile Water)
  • 518-520: 2 x Fireweave Boots (20 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 8 Volatile Fire, 8 Volatile Water)
  • 520-525: Pick one: 5 x Emberfire or Fireweave Boots
  • Emberfire: 50 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 20 Volatile Fire, 20 Volatile Water
  • Fireweave: 50 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 20 Volatile Fire, 20 Volatile Air

This is it, the final WoW Cataclysm Classic Tailoring grind! The final steps, 520 through 525, depend on what you want to farm/what you have available. If you took the time to grind some Volatile Air, you could choose to make Fireweave Boots instead. Once this has been accomplished, you’ve finished the grind, and are free to make whatever you wish as a Tailor.
