WoW Classic’s Fresh Servers have recently begun, meaning it’s time to hunt down Unique, rare mounts. One of the downsides to Classic Vanilla is that there aren’t many such mounts. There are some, though, and while many of them are locked to very specific groups — classes or factions — there is one mount on the Fresh Servers that anyone with enough patience (or luck) could acquire.
If you’re on the Fresh Servers — made available for the WoW 20th Anniversary — there are some incredibly cool mounts you can hunt down. Below is a list of all of the currently known ones — others will be added as more content is made available on the WoW Classic Fresh Servers.
All current WoW Classic Unique mounts on the Fresh Servers
We’re using specific criteria to determine what “Unique mounts” means for WoW Classic’s Fresh Servers. These are mounts that aren’t available at the typical faction vendors. Some of these are quest rewards, while others are just available for the right price from specific world vendors.
As further updates come to the Fresh Servers, we’ll add the PVP Mounts and Raid Mounts; however, those aren’t in Phase 1. Sorry, Onyxia fans — that mount wasn’t added until patch 3.2.2 (Wrath of the Lich King), so there’s no cool dragon mount just yet.
- Black Stallion Bridle
- Summon Warhorse/Felsteed
- Reins of the Winterspring Frostsaber
- Deathcharger’s Reins
1) Black Stallion Bridle (Alliance Only)
I can understand why someone might think the Black Stallion Bride isn’t a “Unique” mount in WoW Classic. I get it — it’s a pretty plain black horse and just a reskin of the standard level 40 horses that Alliance players can get. However, they are sold by a different vendor, so for this piece, they count.
If you want this standard horse, head to the Wetlands and speak to Unger Statforth (8.6, 54.6). Unlike the other horses, it’s not even a blue rarity. However, it costs the same: 80 Gold. If you’re not human, you need to have Exalted with the Humans, so you unlock Horse Riding down in Elwynn Forest.
2) Summon Warhorse/Felsteed (Paladin/Warlock Only)
Yes, the Warhorse and Felsteed are Unique mounts in WoW Classic available only to Paladins and Warlocks, respectively. If that’s not "unique," I don’t know what is. Why are these mounts so great? If you have them, you don’t even have to purchase a Riding Skill ability. If you want to use other mounts you will, but that just means you can save up for it.
They’re amazing classes to play in any version of WoW Classic, Fresh Server, or Hardcore alike. If you want these mounts, you must complete The Tome of Nobility (Paladin), or Summon Felsteed (Warlock). Once you’re done, you get the handy spell to cast.
3) Reins of the Winterspring Frostsaber (Alliance)
It’s hard to say whether Reins of the Winterspring Frostsaber is the most annoying of these mounts to get or not. You’ll eventually get this one if you grind for long enough — but unlike the next entry, this one has a defined finish line. The other just depends on luck. Like the Black Stallion, you must be a specific race: Night Elf. Otherwise, you need to be Exalted with Darnassus to get Tiger Riding.
In addition to the grind, it also costs 900g, which makes sense since it’s an Epic mount. To unlock this Unique mount, you must be Exalted with the Wintersaber Trainer faction, in Winterspring. Rivern Frostwind (49.8, 9.8) awaits in northern Winterspring. There are three repeatable quests you can grind:
- Frostsaber Provisions
- Winterflal INtrusion
- Rampaging Giants
They all come from Rivern and take a tedious grind to even complete in the first place. This is a mount I never bothered to farm when I played Alliance. The reputation grind frankly, didn’t feel worth it. However, it is there, if you want a cool mount to ride around on.
4) Deathcharger’s Reins
I would argue that out of all the Unique mounts here so far, WoW Classic’s Deathcharger’s Reins are the hardest to unlock. I’ve been personally chasing this mount since I first heard about it in the Vanilla days. It’s easy enough to attempt, though — you just need to complete Undeath Stratholme and loot the boss, Baron Rivendare.
However, you’re looking at a .02% drop rate. I’ve fought Baron Rivendare hundreds of times, if not more, and I’ve never seen it drop. It’s such a fascinating mount, though. It was the first skeletal mount that could be used regardless of race/faction, and it doesn’t require Riding Skills at all.
That means if you got lucky and got this, you can save some money and just use this instead of an Epic Mount — they both have the same speed, anyway. However, it does mean you must grind Undeath Stratholme until it drops — then you have to out-roll the other players on top of that. It’s one of the most frustrating mounts to get. Hopefully, the odds will be in your favor as you grind through the WoW Classic Fresh Servers.
