The WoW Classic Hunting for Ectoplasm quest is part of a long series of questlines many players will want to complete. These quests allow players to upgrade their Dungeon Set 1 gear into Dungeon Set 2 gear. This higher-tier armor is largely meant to serve as gear for those who don't wish to raid in WoW Classic.

This quest can be rather long and difficult to complete, so it's very helpful to know exactly where to go and what to do. You will also be required to kill quite a large number of enemies so it will be easier on classes that can solo well, or with friends. Additionally, this quest can require a lot of traveling, so it's recommended to have a flying mount and some mobility items or abilities.

In this guide, we're going to show you how to complete the Hunting for Ectoplasm quest quickly and properly.

To begin this quest, you'll have to first complete its prerequisites "A Supernatural Device" and "The Ectoplasmic Distiller." Once these are done, speak with Mux Manascrambler, a goblin located in Tanaris to begin the quest.

Mux will ask you to use the provided Ectoplasmic Distiller to collect the following:

  • 12x Scorched Ectoplasms from Silithus
  • 12x Frozen Ectoplasms from Winterspring
  • 12x Stable Ectoplasms from the Eastern Plaguelands

To gather each item, place the Distiller on the ground and then defeat the enemy nearby. If done correctly, you should receive credit for a new Ectoplasm in your quest log. If you're looking for an easy class to do this on, you may want to try a WoW Classic mage for its AOE abilities.

The easiest zone to start with is Silithus, where you'll gather your Scorched Ectoplasm collection. When farming here, head slightly North of Southwind Village. Here you can find a densely packed zone of Tortured Sentinel mobs to gather up and kill near your Distiller.

With that completed, move on to Winterspring to begin your next collection for the quest. The best area to farm in this zone is the frozen Lake Kel'Theril. You can run through the nearby Suffering Highborne and Anguished Highborne enemies to bring them to your Distiller.

Finally, you will need to travel to Eastern Plaguelands to gather the last collection, the Stable Ectoplasms. For this zone, go to the Southeast tip of Corin's Crossing, where you can fight Hate Shrieker for quest credit.
