WoW Dracthyr Evoker players rejoice! New classes are coming to the Draconic race later in 2024. It’s something fans of the race introduced in Dragonflight have hoped for since the initial Dragonflight launch. At first, players only had access to Dracthyr Evoker, and even that only had two specializations to choose from, with no hints about seeing anything else show up in the game.
Despite developers denying it, Dracthyr eventually received a third spec (Augmentation) in WoW update 10.15, and now they’re getting new classes. It’s a very exciting time for World of Warcraft players here in 2024. Here’s what you have to look forward to.
WoW’s Dracthyr race finally receives new class options in 2024
Dracthyr players will get access to Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warrior, and Warlock classes in the WoW 20th Anniversary Update. It makes sense that it took some time for the Dracthyr to receive new class options, too. After all, all they knew was their own ways (Evoker). Now that they’ve had time to mingle amongst other races, they’ve learned new ways of combat; new ways to help others.
You’ll probably notice that the new Dracthyr classes are missing some notable exceptions: No Paladin, Shaman, Druid, or Death Knight, for example. The reason for this is likely that while Paladin, Shaman, and Druid are base classes, they are highly specialized. Paladin and Shaman were exclusive to Alliance and Horde respectively, and Druids were only available to specific races.
Players will get access to these new Dracthyr classes in WoW when the 20th Anniversary update drops, which will likely be this November, alongside the two-month event.
Dracthyr will still be able to swap between their normal (draconian) and visage (humanoid) forms. These new classes will be able to fight in either form, unlike Evokers. Evokers are still tied to fighting in their draconian form, but that fits the class identity. The race is going to see some minor changes, too:
Dracthyr (Race) changes:
- Tail Swipe cooldown has been increased to 3 minutes (was 1.5 minutes).
- Wing Buffet cooldown has been increased to 3 minutes (was 1.5 minutes). It now displays wing effects around your character if you use it while in Visage form.
- Tail Swipe and Wing Buffet no longer automatically shift you into Dracthyr form for all classes except Evoker.
Dracthyr Evokers are going to see some minor adjustments as well. Several of their abilities are going to be easier to use (cooldown reduction), and one of their abilities, Permeating Chill, will be a baseline ability. The following changes are on the way:
Class - Evoker changes:
- Clobbering Sweep reduces Tail Swipe’s cooldown by 2 minutes (was 45 seconds).
- Heavy Wingbeats reduces Wing cooldown by 2 minutes (was 45 seconds).
- Permeating Chill is now the baseline for Evoker.
- Heavy Wingbeats and Clobbering Sweep are no longer choice nodes, and their position has changed in the class tree.
Dracthyr will also get a neat Skyriding talent: Squadron. It lets up to two additional Dracthyr players join in flight, to soar across the clouds in formation. It’s worth noting that these numbers could change in the future, and Blizzard could also decide to further alter the Evoker/Dracthyr abilities if they feel it necessary. This is merely what we know right now.
