WoW The War Within’s tank tier list for Mythic+ has changed a little bit for patch 11.0.5. Quite a few classes got adjusted, with some being improved, and others that should have received updates, but didn’t. We’re basing this list on how easily you can clear high level keys with the tank, both in a PUG or static group. Of course, this is opinionated, so your thoughts may not align with ours - and that’s okay.

At the end of the day, like all tier lists, this WoW The War Within Mythic+ Tank tier list is how I feel about this season. Quite frankly, Season One feels incredibly balanced - these Tanks, even though they’re in separate tiers, all still feel quite good. Nothing is stopping you from picking something “low tier”, either. Skill and comfort in a class beat out “high tier” any day of the week.

Mythic+ Tank tier list for Season One of WoW The War Within (11.0.5)

The following is our tank tier list for WoW The War Within’s Mythic rotation Season One - as of patch 11.0.5. This could easily change if other updates throw this out of whack, or certain classes wind up performing better than expected.

S-Tier:Protection Warrior, Guardian Druid
A-Tier:Protection Paladin, Blood Death Knight
B-Tier:Vengeance Demon Hunter, Brewmaster Monk

S-Tier

If you want to play the best tank in Mythic+ in WoW The War Withink you’ll likely pick an S-Tier tank. They have exceptional damage, survivability, and can deal with mechanics easily in the highest tiers of content. You still need to be skilled with the tank, but it’s far less work.

  • Protection Warrior
  • Guardian Druid

While I think Guardian Druids are boring and mediocre compared to Protection Paladins, I cannot deny their strength in Mythic+ runs in WoW The War Within. They didn’t really change much, if at all, in patch 11.0.5, so their spot remains secure at the top of the food chain.

Druid tanks are frankly, incredibly boring - but effective. The same goes for Protection Warriors. The only reason they may fall into A-tier somewhere down the line, is that they rely so much on blocking. They’re the kings of defense, and in Mythic+, I think they have just enough space to shine.

A-Tier

WoW The War Within’s A-tier of Mythic+ tanks are still great! They perform well in nearly all situations, and only are held back by one or two very minor things to keep them out of the top of the list.

  • Blood Death Knight
  • Protection Paladin

I think that by the end of Season One, Blood Death Knights could be on top here. They have remarkable survivability, damage, and solid utility. For dungeons with lots of magic damage, they can run Vestigial Shell to also grant a lesser shield to allies, and that’s amazing. This combined with great Hero Talents, they’re a top-notch tank option.

Patch 11.0.5 was pretty good for Protection Paladins. I feel like they got a bit tankier, which pushed them up the list a little bit. While they aren’t quite as tanky as Warriors and Druids, they deal lots of damage, and that matters in Mythic+ runs.

B-Tier

The B-Tier WoW Mythic+ options take more skill than their compatriots, when it comes to tanking. They lack a few more tools, and take more work to shine with, but a skilled B-Tier tank will still be able to climb the ranks and keep their squad alive.

  • Vengeance Demon Hunter
  • Brewmaster Monk

Vengeance Demon Hunters suffer from just not being tanky enough. However, a good one, that understands their cooldowns and skills will stand out just as well as anyone else. They also have one of the best abilities in the entire game - Chaos Brand. Being able to boost the groups’ damage can’t be underestimated.

I still think Brewmaster Monks are pretty mediocre overall, too. They didn’t get much love in 11.0.5, and that’s a damning indictment on where they stand. They do well with physical damage groups, thanks to Mystic Touch, but overall, they’re still just “okay”. Better than last expansion though, right?
