How to unlock Story Mode raids in WoW The War Within (Nerub-ar Palace)

Story mode raids are a new addition to WoW The War Within, and they let you tackle the final boss of a raid without having to deal with the challenges and nuances of a regular battle. This difficulty is for players who want to progress with the story and aren’t interested in waiting on LFR to unlock it or those who don’t want to raid. Defeating the final boss of this raid - Nerub-ar Palace - will lead to a cutscene that advances the story.

While completing the Story Mode raid isn’t required, doing so with the quest chain below will unlock a “defeat Queen Ansurek” quest in WoW The War Within. This is worth it even if you aren’t going to tackle the Story Mode. Here’s what you need to know.

Unlocking Story Mode raids in WoW The War Within

There is conflicting information about where to start unlocking Story Mode raids in WoW The War Within. One thing that is 100% certain is that you need to be level 80, complete the Level Up Campaign, and then the Level 80 Campaign. While the level 80 campaign quest isn’t exceptionally long, it must be completed. The troubling part is finding the NPC Webster, a little spider.

Some players have found him at (31.56, 62.88) in Dornogal, but I managed to do so in the City of Threads in Azj-Kahet, at (39.60, 65.17). He will offer you the quest Our Chance to Strike, which sends you into the heart of the City of Threads. You must complete a short series of quests to progress with unlocking Story Mode raids in WoW The War Within:

To Kill a Queen

To Kill a Queen is the “defeat Queen Ansurek” quest. This is, frankly, very simple. Once you have To Kill a Queen, you can go through Story Mode. You don’t need to complete this quest to unlock the raid, but unlocking it and beating the boss does earn you some extra rewards:

Enchanted Runes Harbinger Crest
Void-Touched Valorstones (250x Valorstones)
15 Valorstones
The Vizier’s Commendation (2,500 Renown with The Vizier)

If you’re grinding up your Renown/Reputation with the factions in Azj-Kahet, this quest goes a long way in helping you bump those numbers up. When you’re ready, head into the City of Threads (31.59, 63.84), and he will send you to Queen Ansurek. Defeat her and claim your rewards. You can also fight her on other difficulties if you wish.
