After a year of work from a dedicated group of Diablo 4 players, an elusive item drop has finally been found. Reddit user Sowhatsthecatch recently showed off the newest item they and others worked hard to find, the Ring of Misfortune. This group of players operates primarily on Discord and seeks out the most deeply hidden items in Diablo 4.

After a full year of searching for Ring of Misfortune and other items, these players believe they've come close to figuring out exactly how and when this item drops. Through cooperative work and excess trial and error, the group has worked to reproduce the needed steps. When an item like this drops, tedious reverse engineering is required to figure out which factors made the drop happen.

In this article, we're going to explain what the Ring of Misfortune is, what it does, and how you can get it yourself.

One year later Diablo 4 group finally loots rare item drop

This group of Diablo 4 season players has been working since the game's release to find rare and hidden items. After a year of searching, one of their members finally managed to loot a Ring of Misfortune, almost by accident. In order to get this ring, the player had to first loot a Lucky Coin item from a dead NPC. With this item, they and four other players were able to complete a secret quest.

To get the Lucky Coin to drop, you'll need to take care of two prerequisites. First, you'll need to have lootable NPC corpses nearby. Second, you'll need to have access to a Greed Shrine, as the coins won't drop unless you have this buff active.

Once you're under the effect of the Greed Shrine, you can begin looting the NPC corpses around you in hopes of a Lucky Coin drop. The most efficient method for doing this is to find corpses created by monsters during mini-events in the open world. When you've successfully looted the coin, you can move on to finishing the Lucky Coin secret quest.

Finishing the Lucky Coin secret quest will reward players with a Ring of Misfortune item. To complete the quest, you'll need two things. The first thing required is having a Lucky Coin in your inventory. The second thing you'll need is to have five players present. Each of these players must be on a different class and one of each unique class must be present.

After gathering your group of a Necromancer, Rogue, Barbarian, Druid, and Sorcerer, you must all meet at the Wishing Well in Scosglen. Here, each player will need to interact with the well, tossing their Lucky coin into it. Make sure to do this one at a time so the progress tracks correctly. It's currently unknown whether this will require 6 players in Diablo 4 Season 5 with the new Spiritborn class.

If done properly, each character should state a voice line after their interaction. Once all five are done, the Ring will appear in your inventory and you should receive the Well-Wisher title.
