Carl Edwards started his racing journey at the age of four, when his father, Carl Edwards Sr. made him a Go Kart. His urge to race was so uncontrollable that at 15, he even tried to race at Godfrey III using a fake ID, as he needed to be 16 to enter the pits.

Luckily, Edwards managed to get a lump sum amount of $34,000 from his mother Nancy Sterling, using which he was able to land a ride at the United States Auto Club's Silver Crown circuit. His endless pursuit of a career in motorsport paid off when he entered the Truck Series driving for MB Motorsports.

Edwards' wife is Katherine Downey Edwards. Edwards is a doctor who earned her degree in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from the Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine. Edwards and his wife have been married for almost a decade now.
