A substitute teacher handing out business cards saying, “If you're looking for a driver, you're looking for me”, isn't a common sight to behold. But that's exactly what this 2013 NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee used to do back when he was chasing his dreams of driving a race car.
The endless pursuit of that cherished dream landed Edwards a ride with Roush Fenway Racing (now, RFK Racing). Needless to say, Edwards proved his abilities by recording 72 victories, almost all of which were followed not by a burnout but by a celebratory backflip.
Edwards’ success wasn't, by any means, less in the Xfinity Series. For five straight years, he came in the top two on points and throughout seven years as an Xfinity Series athlete, bagged the championship trophy in 2007, besides winning 38 races in the series.
Even on the Cup Series side of things, Edwards won 28 races over 13 years, including victories in the Southern 500 and the Coca-Cola 600, both in 2015. He also qualified for the championship run twice, the closest one being in 2011, when his tiebreaker lap fell a few seconds short and Tony Stewart took away the win.
