A wise man once said, “The morning shows the day”. Needless to say, it did for Portage native Carson Hocevar. While a normal six-year-old kid would probably spend their day playing on the porch or assembling Legos in the playroom, little Hocevar chose to drive Quarter Midgets. It didn't take him long to amass 79 wins, besides 15 national championships in the world of USAC quarter midgets.
Hocevar’s unmistakable talent was soon noticed by NASCAR Truck Series champion, Johnny Benson Jr., and under his able guidance, Hocevar started wheeling full-fledged stock cars when he was just 12. Later that year, he made history by becoming the youngest winner in both the Outlaw Late Model and the Super Late Model Divisions. Unfortunately, the governing body brought about a new age restriction, which brought a temporary halt to his success.
Nevertheless, Hocevar went on to become the youngest track champion in the history of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at the age of 14. In the same year, he also registered three wins in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Pro Late Model category.
Hocevar made the biggest jump in his career in 2019, landing a ride in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series dirt race at Eldora Speedway for Jordan Anderson Racing. After another start at Phoenix in the same year, Niece Motorsports signed him for a part-time deal in the 2020 Craftsman Truck Series.
Carson Hocevar NASCAR Wins
In 2020, Hocevar won the 49th edition of the prestigious Winchester 400, a crown jewel Super Late Model race that has previously been won by NASCAR stalwarts like Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin, and even Kyle Busch.
His first season in the Truck Series was indeed a success given the fact that he made it to the top 10 on final points and recorded a career-best runner-up position at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Hocevar grabbed his first checkered flag in the Truck Series last year at Texas Motor Speedway, after he led only the last overtime lap and drove his #42 Niece Motorsports Chevy to the victory lane by a jaw-dropping margin of 1.628 seconds over Kyle Busch Motorsports speedster, Chase Purdy.
He continued his winning ways in the Rackley Roofing 400 at Nashville leading the final 40 laps. His winning momentum brought him two more victories in the same year; one at Richmond and another (also his most recent one) at Homestead-Miami, which ultimately got him his first-ever Championship 4 ticket. Besides that, he also has 11 top fives and 13 top tens to his credit.
Carson Hocevar Cup Series
Although a brake failure marred his debut Cup Series race at the Gateway, he showed incredible promise and speed driving for Legacy Motorclub. His best finish as a rookie in the Cup Series last year came at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he narrowly missed his top-10 finish and wound up 11th.
Hocevar’s performance allowed him to skip the Xfinity Series and directly land a deal with Spire Motorsports, driving the #77 Cup Series Chevrolet Camaro in 2024. With veteran crew chief Luke Lambert working closely with him, he expects to make it big right in his first full-time Cup Series season.
On that note, success might come up soon as just last week, he made his career’s first top-10 finish in the Cup Series. The Spire Motorsports driver has an average finish of 21.33 this year and stands 22nd on points.
