Kaulig Racing announced on Monday that Shane van Gisbergen will drive the #13 WeatherTech Chevrolet car for next Sunday's Charlotte Roval race. The Welcome-based team announced the news via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
NASCAR's final Round of 12 race will be held at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend. The race will also act as the elimination round for four drivers below the playoff cutline post-race. However, the playoffs scenario doesn't affect Kaulig and Van Gisbergen as they have not qualified for the playoffs this season.
SVG normally drives the #16 Chevrolet in his part-time entry in the Cup Series with Matt Kaulig's team but the tables have turned this time around. Kaulig Racing sent AJ Allmendinger to the #16 car and brought in Van Gisbergen for the #13 for the road course.
Kaulig Racing posted on X:
"Another road course. Another Kaulig entry. Another trophy hunt!!SVG will pilot the No. 13 @WeatherTech Chevy this weekend at The ROVAL!"
Joseph Srigley of Sports Illustrated added:
"NASCAR Roster Portal shows Travis Mack (crew chief of the No. 16) working with SVG on the No. 13 this weekend, while Andrew Dickeson jumps to the No. 16 with AJ Allmendinger."
Shane van Gisbergen and AJ Allmendinger drove in last weekend's race at Talladega. The former finished in 15th place in the #16 Chevrolet while the latter finished 28th in the #13 car.
WeatherTech and Shane van Gisbergen join hands again
A day before Kaulig Racing announced Shane van Gisbergen as the driver of the #13 WeatherTech Chevrolet for Charlotte Roval, WeatherTech agreed to sponsor SVG's Trackhouse ride for 36 races next season.
WeatherTech, an American company specializing in premium automotive accessories, signed an agreement with Trackhouse Racing and will be seen on Van Gisbergen's #88 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
Van Gisbergen agreed to move to Trackhouse Racing earlier this year for a full-time seat in the Cup Series next season. WeatherTech will also sponsor Trackhouse's Connor Zilisch in the #88 Xfinity Series ride as well.
