Chris Buescher recently shared his take on the #17 team's current scenario as NASCAR inches towards the four remaining races of the regular season. After a P22 finish at the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis, Buescher stands 17 points above the 2024 playoff cut-line.
In a recent media interaction, Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass asked the RFK Racing driver if he was anxious, frustrated, or concerned about his playoff position ahead of the race at Richmond Raceway. To which the 31-year-old Buescher replied:
"I mean, not nervous about it, you know. It's something that we're going to pay a little bit more attention to as we run down into these final four here. But, you know, pretty adamant about it. I don't want, to change the way we approach our races."
Buescher claimed there's no change in their approach for the upcoming races. He added that the #17 team would keep the "best foot forward" as they compete in the final four races. Interestingly, in 2023, Buescher and his #17 Ford team won on three of the next four scheduled tracks and confirmed their seat in the playoff round. Elaborating on his last season's wins, Buescher said:
"So that's obviously, a pretty awesome statistic as we look at it. But last year's results don't equal this year's. We've been very good at a lot of different styles of racetracks. We've been very close to walking ourselves in,"
Earlier this season, the Texas native Chris Buescher came close to celebrating at the victory lane. He had two runner-up finishes, one at Phoneix Raceway and the other a historic photo finish when Buescher finished 0.001 seconds behind Kyle Larson at Kansas Speedway.
A brief look into Chris Buescher's Cup Series wins
Chris Buescher is a full-time Cup Series driver for RFK Racing, piloting the #17 Ford Mustang. In a career spanning almost a decade, Buescher has accumulated a total of five wins.
The 2015 Xfinity Series champion made his full-time debut in 2016 for Front Row Motorsports and won his first-ever race at the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway in the same year. After his rookie season, Buescher moved to JTG Daugherty Racing for three years, followed by Roush Fenway Racing in 2020.
Buescher claimed his second win at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2022. It was the same year as when Brad Keselowski joined Buescher's team as a driver/owner and the team name was changed to RFK Racing.
However, the 2023 Cup Series season was considered the #17 Ford driver's best as he secured three wins at Richmond, Michigan, and Daytona Speedway. Moreover, Chris Buescher finished seventh in the final drivers' standings.
