The NASCAR All-star race 2024 kicks into gear this Sunday at the North Wilkesboro Speedway. Born in 1949, the NASCAR Cup Series has paved the way for action packed racing. The sport has given some of motor racing's greatest moments and even spawned the sport's most celebrated exhibition race, the All-Star Race.
Established in 1985, the NASCAR All-Star race is a match up of old and new school and features intense competition between racing legends and current stars. While its a crowd favorite, NASCAR has confirmed that the 2024 All-Star Race won't award championship points.
Despite the lack of championship points, there are other means of celebrating the popular race format. A hefty $1 million prize awaits the winner, along with the thrill of conquering the iconic Wilkesboro Speedway, while being a part of an exclusive club of select drivers.
Team owner and driver Chase Elliott expressed his excitement about the All-Star Race's return to Wilkesboro in an interview with ESPN. He said:
"I think it is a good thing. This place has been around for a long time and is in the heart of NASCAR land with Charlotte being right down the road. Personally, I was excited to see that they spent a lot of money to repave the place because that told me it was going to be around for a while. The fan turnout was great last year, and I hope that continues."
Promising high-speed action with past heroes and current champions, drivers have taken to social media to reveal their liveries for this iconic race format ahead of the race. Among them, two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Ross Chastain proudly shared his livery on Instagram.
