NASCAR driver Daniel Suarez shared an interesting story about his proposal to his wife Julia Piquet in 2022. The couple tied the knot earlier this year in a grand celebration in Brazil, on 30 July.

Suarez pilots the #99 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing Team, competing full-time in the Cup Series. Throughout his NASCAR career, he has secured six victories across the sport's top divisions, including a Cup Series triumph at Atlanta earlier this year. Additionally, he holds an impressive record in the NASCAR Brazil Series, with 11 wins in 76 starts. Moreover, Suarez secured the Xfinity Series championship in 2016.

After dating for nearly two years, Suarez popped the question to his then-girlfriend (now wife) Julia Piquet. In a recent episode of the Diry Mo Media podcast, Suarez shared an amusing story about his proposal.

"It's a very long story for me. I'm not gonna go into all the details but I'm gonna just tell you that I was in Monaco where she grew up and my original plan was to propose to her in front of the house that she grew up because she was so excited to show it to me," he said.
"This was my mistake. I hired a Brazilian videographer, he was gonna hide and he was gonna be there. So I was talking to the guy, it was early in the morning because it was like a little hike to get to this house. Well you won't believe this, we got there and the guy didn't show up[...]I planned it for weeks. The night before he was flying from Brazil to Monaco, and he just overslept. I was so mad, I wanted to kick the guy's butt," he added.

Suarez then explained how he finally found a place and got down on one knee in front of Julia Piquet. Here's a look at the video of the proposal via Piquet's Instagram.

Suarez locked his spot for the 2024 playoffs with a victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier in the season. He narrowly missed a sweep at Atlanta, finishing second in the Quaker State 400, the first playoff race. Currently ranked ninth in the standings, Suarez aims for another win to advance further in the playoffs.

Daniel Suarez comments on his performance in the Quaker State 400 following P2 finish

Daniel Suarez started the first playoff race from the back of the grid, in P30. However, the #99 driver, with some help from his TRT teammate Ross Chastain, was able to cover enough ground to be among the front runners.

In a post-race interview with Frontstretch, Suarez reflected on his performance and shared his emotions after a strong start to the playoffs. He said:

"Honestly, right now I don't care about points. It just hurts that we are not in victory lane, but uh that's part of it you know. Maybe there is a couple things I could have done better[...]Once I lost the #22 it just everything started moving around. I really wanted to control the race and I couldn't control the race. So it's part of it, I just have to rewatch it and see what I could have done better."

Suarez was in a fierce battle with Team Penske's Joey Logano. Both drivers in the front row were being pushed by their teammates in a glorious display of teamwork. However, Logano emerged victorious for Team Penske in the first playoff race, advancing to the next round.
