Josh Berry's crew chief has agreed with NASCAR insiders' take on his driver's fateful weekend at Kansas. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver's 30th race weekend was ruined before he could complete a single lap. However, what the driver and his crew chief Rodney Childers believed was that the tow truck would drop the #4 Ford in the garage and Berry would be able to resume his run.

But the opposite happened as the SHR driver was towed to the campground instead and was asked to exit the car. The moment infuriated Berry and he radioed in, saying, "They got me in the f***ing campground, Rodney." But despite Childers' efforts to do something about it, nothing changed and a DNF was given.

Josh Berry got collected in a wreck and multiple tires of his Ford Mustang were flat. As a result, he was towed. However, as per NASCAR officials, the reason for barring the SHR driver's return to the field was that the Goodyear compound was flattened because of contact and not due to driver error.

Moving forward, NASCAR insiders Brett Griffin and Freddie Kraft presented their views on the #4 Ford's fateful day. They outlined that the ruling was "not fair" to the team and its partners.

"This has to stop happening. These guys spent three days of their life, they left their families at home with a hurricane coming, and they spent a gazillion dollars to build this car...and you didn't let them (race) because they had four flat tires. Are you shi***ng me? Are you f***ing sh***ng me right now? It's not fair to Rodney, it's not fair to Josh, it's not fair to their partners, it's not fair to anybody on that team" Griffin said.
"This is gonna happen eventually to somebody in that final four and you're going to eliminate a championship contender because he got a flat tire. Who's making that decision back there?" Kraft said (0:43).

Childers fully supported the insiders' take and expressed the same, reacting.

"💯"

Rodney Childers blasts NASCAR for not letting Josh Berry resume his Kansas race

Amid SHR's shutdown, Josh Berry will move to Wood Brothers Racing next year while Childers will look after Justin Haley at Spire Motorsports. Though the driver crew-chief duo expressed their desire to work together in the future, the Silly season had other plans for them.

Thus, 2024 is the only season thus far, that Childers and Berry are aligned toward a common goal. The #4 Ford driver is running his rookie Cup Series season after replacing retired Kevin Harvick and has bagged two top-5s and four top-10s, with the best result of third-place finishes at Darlington's regular season race and at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

In his "25 years in the Cup Series," Childers has never witnessed what he saw happening with Josh Berry after the opening lap chaos. The crew chief took his frustration to X (formerly Twitter) and slammed NASCAR for their "screwed up" call.

"I’ve seen a lot of things over my 25 years in the Cup Series, but that’s the most screwed up thing I’ve ever seen or been involved with. All we needed was tires with air in them. And how many times have we drug cars to the pit stall to put tires on them. Why today?!? 😡" Childers wrote.

After six races, Josh Berry and Rodney Childers will part ways and will run as competitors in the next season.
