Kyle Larson had a costly pit stop during the Yellawood 500 at Talladega. In doing so, the Hendrick Motorsports driver encountered a pit stop issue, and, as a result, lost multiple positions in the Yellawood 500 race on Sunday.
Larson started the race from 12th position and steadily made his way up the field. At one point, he even took the lead during a four-wide battle, but it was short-lived. Larson lost the lead to Chris Buescher, who ultimately claimed the Stage 1 win, whereas the former finished in fourth. However, when he opted for the pit stop on the 64th lap, a delay momentarily ruined his race.
The video uploaded by NASCAR on X showed that a crew member was fueling up Larson's #5 Chevrolet, which delayed him during a pit stop. Larson had started the race in fourth place and was running in that position before the pit stop. At the time of publishing this article, the 32-year-old was down in ninth.
Kyle Larson aimed at top 5 at Talladega
The Talladega setback is unlikely to hurt Kyle Larson on his round-of-eight quest this time around. HHe currently sits fourth in the standings, 18 points above the playoff cutline. Even if he misses out on significant points, he is unlikely to be on the bubble.
On top of that, Larson wasn't aiming or a mega performance at the Talladega Superspeedway race this Sunday, as he was comfortably ahead in the race for the next round. In a recent media interaction, he stated that he would be satisfied with a top-five finish.
"I would take a fifth," Larson said. "I would take any amount of stage points, and I would take a top 10. And I would take a 10th at Talladega, and I would be happy with that day."
Austin Cindric of Team Penske was leading the Yellawood 500 till Lap 108 of 188, ahead of his teammate Ryan Blaney and Hendrick Motorsports' Chase Elliott.
