Joey Logano's dominant win in Sunday's NASCAR All-Star Race had Kenny Wallace compare him with the three-time Formula One World Drivers' Champion, Max Verstappen. According to the NASCAR vet, Logano's run was in no way less exhilarating than how Verstappen recently won the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix besides a virtual endurance event at Imola.
In a recent post that he shared on his official X page, Wallace said,
"Joey Logano gave an a**-whipping. Joey Logano looked like Max Verstappen in Formula 1. You know how sometimes people are like, that race was boring. Now you know what it feels like to be a Formula 1 fan."
In the modern era of NASCAR, where mechanical parity is the biggest challenge for the teams to handle, Wallace felt Joey Logano's number 22 Ford Mustang Dark Horse was the fastest in the 20-car field.
"And another thing: You know, how everybody wants everything equal?" said Wallace explaining the same. "The cars weren't equal. Joey Logano's car was way faster."
Wallace was equally impressed with the hype from the crowd that cheered from the grandstands at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
"Those were the grand stands that were there when they quit racing there and those grandstands were packed," he observed. "People were happy, had great music, people taking pictures in front of the old Winston Cup Series signage. I think the thing lived up to what it was going to be."
This victory was the second All-Star race win for Joey Logano and the fifth for Team Penske. The last time Joey Logano won a points-paying Cup Series race was back in the Ambetter Health 400 on March 19, 2023. Needless to say, Logano was elated.
A little prep was all Joey Logano needed to win
Joey Logano ran 800 during the test sessions at the 0.625-mile racetrack in North Carolina. Comparing his prep work to a scene in the movie "Miracle", Logano exclaimed, as per FOX Sports,
"It's like when the coach is making the team run the suicide drills and he keeps saying, ‘Again! Again!.' That was Paul Wolfe to me with the testing. I ran 800 laps. I was sore and I had enough.”
Joey Logano started from the pole and led 199 of the 200 laps in the 40th edition of the All-Star event. By doing so, he set the record for the highest laps led in the history of the race. Winning his first race this season en route to the cash prize of a million dollars, the Ford pilot said,
"The first thing that goes through your mind is gosh, I wish this counted for points. But let's be honest, a million is a lot of money and counts for something.”
Joey Logano felt this victory was a boost for the entire team. Today, Logano stands 17th on points with 292 points to his name. He now eyes the crown-jewel Coca-Cola 600 that is due next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
