The Brickyard 400 is set to take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 21. The 400-mile race will be telecast on NBC Sports and USA Network at 2:30 pm ET.
The Brickyard 400 marks the return of NASCAR to the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval track for the first time since 2020. The last three Cup races were held on road course. Located in Speedway, Indiana, it will be the 22nd race of the 2024 NASCAR season and will see the Next Gen car in action for the first time at the IMS oval track.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a 2.5-mile-long rectangular-shaped oval track featuring 9.2 degrees of banking in all four turns and zero degrees of banking on straightaways.
It hosted its first NASCAR Cup Series race at the IMS oval track in 1994. Jeff Gordon was the winner of the inaugural Brickyard event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
It will be the 31st annual Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 39 drivers entering this week’s Cup Series race will compete across 160 laps in 400 miles. The Cup Series weekend will begin with practice on Friday (July 19), followed by Saturday’s qualifying sessions and the main event on Sunday.
Michael McDowell and Front Row Motorsports enter as the defending winners after securing a thrilling victory in last year’s Indianapolis Road Course.
Jeff Gordon holds the record for most Brickyard 400 wins with five. He won the event in 1994, 1998, 2001, 2004, and 2014. Gordon is followed by Jimmie Johnson, with four wins.
Kyle Busch is the only active driver who has won at Brickyard multiple times. He won at the IMS oval in 2015 and 2016.
