NASCAR Cup Series 2024: Full weekend schedule for YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway

The YellaWood 500 will take place at the Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, October 6. The 500-mile race will be telecast on NBC Sports at 2 pm ET.

Located in Lincoln, Alabama, it will be the 31st race of the 2024 NASCAR season and the fifth of the 2024 NASCAR playoffs. It will see the Next Gen car in action for the sixth time at Talladega Superspeedway. The 500-mile is divided into three stages. Stage 1 ends on lap 60, Stage 2 consists of 60 laps and the final Stage consists of 68 laps.

The Talladega Superspeedway is the largest oval on the NASCAR schedule, with a length of 2.66-mile-long tri-oval superspeedway featuring 33 degrees of banking in the turns, 16.5 degrees of banking on the tri-oval, and 3 degrees on the backstretch, drivers must work together in the draft to succeed.

The Talladega Superspeedway hosted its first NASCAR Cup Series race in 1969. Richard Brickhouse won the inaugural YellaWood 500 (previously known as the Talladega 500) at Talladega Superspeedway.

It will be the 56th YellaWood 500, hosted by Talladega Superspeedway. The 40 drivers entering this week’s Cup Series race will compete across 188 laps in 500 miles. The NASCAR Cup Series weekend will begin with a qualifying session on Saturday (October 5), followed by the main event the following day.

Team Penske driver and defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney will enter as the defending winner of the event after a thrilling victory in last year’s Talladega fall race.

NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt holds the record for most YellaWood 500 wins with seven. He won the event in 1983–1984, 1990–1991, 1993, 1999–2000. Earnhardt is followed by Dale Earnhardt’s son, Dale Jr., with three wins.

Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and Ryan Blaney are the only three active drivers who have won multiple Talladega fall races.
