Legacy Motor Club driver Erik Jones was handed the 2024 Comcast Community Champion of the Year Award for his excellent efforts in social and community welfare. He is the 10th individual to receive the award, and the Erik Jones Foundation will receive $60,000.

The Foundation was established in 2021 and focuses on three main issues of social welfare; cancer screening and treatment, literacy, and animal welfare. Cancer has come out as a personal issue for Jones. He lost his father to melanoma in 2016, and could never see his son race in the Cup Series. Meanwhile, his mother battled breast cancer twice in 2013 and 2019 but has now recovered.

The Comcast Community Champion of the Year recognizes individuals working with NASCAR for their community-focused work. This not only helps them to get monetary aid but also makes people more aware of such welfare work. Accepting the award, Erik Jones wrote on Instagram:

"So proud of the foundation team tonight. This is a huge honor and testament of the work put forth to the causes I truly care about! Thank you to Comcast for the recognition and to all who have supported us."

How has the Erik Jones Foundation raised cancer awareness on the NASCAR grid?

As mentioned, his Foundation is focused on multiple aspects including literary and animal welfare, however, his work on early cancer detection and funding has largely come under the spotlight. His work with other NASCAR drivers during the Charlotte Motor Speedway weekend was a huge highlight.

He joined hands with other drivers who painted their cars' window nets pink during the race. These nets were then auctioned off and the money was donated to cancer research.

While this was a successful campaign for Jones and the Foundation, it also helped it catch the public eye. He also held a free skin cancer detection screening camp at Phoenix during the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race.

Recognizing his efforts, Matt Lederer, VP of Brand Partnerships and Amplification at Comcast, said:

"Erik has consistently demonstrated his passion for meeting people where they are—offering support, resources, and hope. His dedication to early cancer detection, youth literacy, and animal welfare shows how one individual can create meaningful change. We are proud to name Erik Jones as the 2024 Comcast Community Champion of the Year."

Jones also organizes on-track reading camps as a part of his Foundation's literacy campaign. Further, the #READwithErik online campaign works in the same direction, alongside donating book vending machines to schools.

Moreover, the 28-year-old works for the welfare of the animals and pets to focus on their physical and mental health. He has been instrumental in donating to animal rescuers and shelters to ensure proper care.

The monetary injection along with the recognition from the Comcast Community Champion of the Year award will help in further publicity of the Erik Jones Foundation which would positively impact his welfare work.
