Despite facing another disappointing finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch kept his sportsman spirit high, helping his rival Bubba Wallace.

After the Brickyard 400 got done and dusted, Wallace's engine failed to fire up due to lack of fuel. But Busch's push in the infield lane helped the 23XI Racing driver's Toyota steer to the pitlane.

Having kicked off his run from the rear of the pack in P34, Kyle Busch was nowhere near the frontrunners during the first two stages. The scenario changed a little in the final stage, giving the #8 Chevy a chance of a third top-5. But on Lap 159, Busch spun out from 6th place and slammed into the Turn 3 wall for a 25th-place finish.

On the other hand, Bubba Wallace claimed his first playoff point this season, courtesy of his Stage 2 win. But after pitting for fuel on Lap 112, the #23 Toyota stretched seven more laps than initially planned. The fuel problem knocked on Wallace's door shortly after he rounded up a top-5 finish, as his high-octane ride failed to ignite.

That's when Kyle Busch came to the rescue; he pushed Wallace's ride until the Toyota fired up and Wallace could steer into the pitlane by himself. The Alabama native hopped out of his car and fist-bumped Busch for his sportsmanship.

Kyle Busch's Round of 16 odds hanging by a thread as Bubba Wallace savors his playoff-picture gains

With two top-5s, six top-10s, and a disappointing five DNFs from 22 race weekends, Kyle Busch's streak of disappointing outings has been growing. Ever since his first DNF at the World Wide Technology Raceway, the #8 Chevy's performance has seen a downhill slide.

From eight races after the Gateway stint, the RCR driver has had five DNFs while salvaging a solitary top 10 at the Chicago Street Race. Moreover, with no Stage win this year and his career-worst feat of 43 winless races, Busch is lingering in 19th place in the Playoff Picture, with a deficit of 112 points to the cutline.

Meanwhile, even though Bubba Wallace is still below the playoff threshold, he has reduced the gap from 51 points to seven short of Ross Chastain's +7 in 16th place. If he puts up strong performances in the remaining four races against Ty Gibbs, Chris Buescher, and Ross Chastain, the 23XI Racing driver could pull himself up from the 17th place in the Playoff Picture to secure his trip to the Round of 16.
