Joe Gibbs Racing recently answered a question about whether their NASCAR team covers travel expenses for their pit crews. In a video shared on their official Instagram account, Joe Gibbs explained what expenses are covered and how the whole situation works.
The Instagram reel, posted by Joe Gibbs Racing, gives followers a closer look at the behind-the-scenes of the NASCAR team. In the video, Joe Gibbs Racing talked about how pit crew members enjoy travel support from the team, saying that the team uses private planes to fly the crew to and from race tracks.
Hotel accommodations are also covered whenever necessary, particularly for races on the West Coast or other far-off locations. For closer events, the pit crew travels on the day of the race, so hotel arrangements may not always be required.
"We actually have our own airplane, so as part of being on the pit crew, you get to travel on one of our planes to and from the race track."
Joe further talked about how the pit crew is paid. They receive a per diem to cover daily expenses. This allowance is paid in addition to their regular salaries.
Joe Gibbs Racing is all set to join the NASCAR season beginning in February and has been consistently sharing these preparations with the fans through social media.
Joe Gibbs Racing announces big changes for 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Program
Joe Gibbs Racing also recently announced changes to their NASCAR Cup Series program for the 2025 season. Tyler Allen has been named the new crew chief for Ty Gibbs, making it a fresh start for the No. 54 team.
Allen has previously worked as a crew chief in the Xfinity Series, where he led the No. 20 team to eight wins, 17 top-5, and 22 top-10 finishes during the 2024 season.
Jason Ratcliff, an old crew chief, will also make a return to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2025. He will take on the role of crew chief for Taylor Gray, for the No. 54 Xfinity team. Currently, he has 57 Xfinity Series wins over 17 years.
Joe Gibbs has had a good 2024 season and retained its four-car lineup, continuing with drivers Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., Christopher Bell, and Ty Gibbs. The team made use of the updated Toyota Camry XSE and Toyota Racing Development engines, to build on its 2023 performance.
Hamlin, paired with Chris Gabehart, focused on winning his first Cup Series title after a near-miss in 2023. Truex, working with James Small, worked to regain consistency after a disappointing playoff performance, after having a strong regular season.
Bell, with Adam Stevens, reached the Championship 4 for the third consecutive year. Ty Gibbs, paired with Chris Gayle, had a good second full season, with potential for future wins.
JGR’s stability and experienced driver-crew chief combinations made them a strong competitor throughout the season. Now, by pairing experienced crew chiefs like Allen and Ratcliff with young drivers, Joe Gibbs Racing is ready to take on the 2025 season.
